想告诉你一个短语：up someone's sleeve,
能不能猜得到是什么意思？如果直译成“在某人的袖子上”那就错了，我是不会给你这么简单的问题的。
up someone's
sleeve是指“某人的秘密”。我第一次看到这个短语时，想到的情景就是：中国古代穿着长衫的人，在集市上交易时，将手放到长衫里来告诉对方卖价与买价，那秘密不就是藏在袖子里的吗？所以很容易就记住了这个短语。
看两个美国的报道吧。在报导美国国务卿秘密访问贝鲁特时，有文章说"...if
there were no secret visit up the
Administration's
sleeve..."，也就是说："要是当局不进行秘密访问，..."。

sleeve与名词card, ace,
idea等连用，表示“某人有其他人没有的办法”。
