Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill 1998 Brut Champagne (750ml)

Well chilled. First served an hour after uncorking (sealed with champagne stopper).

 

Lemony robe, still with greenish hue. Very fine bubbles in persistent effervescence.

Smooth, creamy aromas of fresh dairy produce & lime blossom, with underlying mineral finesse. So very Chardonnay-dominant bouquet.

On the palate, it features acidulous, mouthwatering flavors of mandarine, hawthorn, 

lemon & grapefruit. Elegant attack with melted-in-mouth mousse. Sleek & poised mid palate. Resonant, satisfying finale of delicous sour-sweetness.

 

With aeration & as it loses the initial chill, more biscuity complexities are revealed on both the nose and the palate, rounded off by sensual citrous fruit. It gains in body as it warms up. Lush, supple & long.

Stylish & satisfying now. Though I can't help wondering where it would head to, as the fruit is already sensually mellowing, but the acidity is still a touch too high.
