亲爱的开文，

   今天，我很高兴，你能进入世界上最好的大学之一。这个成绩的取得不仅仅是你个人的荣誉，也是你的爸爸和妈妈真正的梦想。二十多年前，当我来到美国攻读博士学位的时候，我就梦想过进入顶尖大学求学深造，但是，我没有达到我希求的目标。

   大学，将是你人生的新舞台。在那里，文化知识渊博多彩，周围人群才华横溢，是你获求知识，积累人生经历的最佳时机。我想提醒一下，这四年将是你人生的最佳时机，万勿错过。你将享受青春活力的生活，从稚嫩走向成熟，充实和提高自己。你会打下扎实的基础，把它当作人生的挑板，仿佛箭在弦上，时刻为你的未来事业做好冲刺的准备。我不希望你浪费光阴，我希望你获得宝贵的人生体验。

   你曾经问过我，问我能给你什么建议，正好借此，我有几句话想说。

   六，成就来自不懈的努力。你唯有努​​力，科学道路上没有捷径。老话说得好：“没有什么比不成功的人更常见到。”看看周围，都是聪明人，但在最后，也只有少数人到达顶峰。为什么？因为走科学之路，它不但是一个十分消耗体力的旅程，也是一个孤独的旅程。您必须付出双倍的耐力和勤奋去克服困难。骄傲自大和机会主义者，他们只能失望，失败。成功的公式是：有梦想，相信梦想，相信自己，去做。要想成功，必须无偿地奉献自己。

   大学四年，也是一个建立目标的过程。不要忘了，追求卓越，追求冒险，保持好奇心，对事物充满兴趣，它们都会让你用饱满的热情，去度过有意思的人生。请履行自己的承诺，做一个对社会有贡献的人。

   真没想到，一口气说了那么多。这真是一个令人激动的时刻。我相信你早已经具备了良好的个人素质。我真羡慕你啊：起点那么高。因为勤奋，你跨入理想大学的校门。请享受你的旅程吧，它一定既有意义，又充满着无穷的乐趣。

Dear Kevin, 

I am very happy for you to get into one of the best universities in the world, this is not only your achievement, it is also dream come true for your mom and me, I have dreamed to attend the top schools when I came to US for graduate study, I did not reach the best I could have wished. 

You now are on a new stage of your life at the university, soaked in the rich culture, surrounded by the highly intelligent people, learning the knowledge, experiencing one of the best time of your time. This is truly the best time of your life, you enjoy, get mature, enrich yourself, and setup the foundation and spring board for your career, and get ready to fly. I do not want you to waste a minute of it, make a full experience out of it. 

You’ve asked me what advices I might give to you, I like to take this opportunity to say a few words.

1，Make friends，Boys and Girls, and have fun!

2，Have a big heart, be generous to people and friends, your biggest treasure in the future is the people you’ve met, and they can trust you, love to be with you and willing to help you. Big heart needs be opening minded, be able to learn other’s good traits. Everyone has his/her uniqueness, learn to appreciate. A selfish person cannot go far, has little future.

3，Pick up a sport you like and play it regularly. Sports not only help you to build a healthy body, they also excise your mind, your endurance, your balance of attitude, and your competitiveness. Sports help to build a healthy mind and character. 

4，Participate the activities that related to your field of study, find chance to talk to your professors, go to conferences, get to know the people in the field, establish network, involve research early, young and active mind has better chance to new discovery.

5，Gain knowledge and obtain problem solving skills are the key objectives people have at college, you shall never overlook the power of the way of thinking can result; it separates the good and the great. Learn critical and systematic thinking that reveal the core of a problem rather than just the phenomenon of it. Do not just solve a problem, create opportunities out of it; beneath every unsolved problem, there are truth and treasures, discover them, exploit them, make the best out of it—the problem.

6，Achievement comes with dedicated efforts, you have to strive to it, and nothing comes easy. There is an old say: there is nothing more common than unsuccessful talents. You are surrounding by smart people, but at the end, only a few make to the summit, it is an exhausting and lonely journey. You need to try twice harder with endurance, keep on; cockiness and opportunism only lead to disappointment. The formula for success is: have dream, believe it and yourself, and press on. It only comes when you dedicate yourself to it.

 It is also the time in the next four year to establish a lifetime goal, the pursuit of excellence, the pursuit of adventure. Always be curious and interested, have a fulfilled life.  Let your life be meaningful to you and others. Fulfill yourself, contribute to the society.

Wow, there is so much to say, this is a great moment. I believe you already have the personal quality to do well. I envy what you have: starting from high. Enjoy the journey, be meaningful and have fun!
