In Robert Zemeckis' film Forrest Gump, Forrest is supposed to have run a total of 15,248 miles coast-to-coast across America. It seems like an impossible challenge in real life, but someone actually managed to break Forrest’s record by running a total of 15,600 miles in 409 days.
Rob, Pope, a 39-year-old man from Liverpool, the
UK, spent over a year of his life recreating Forrest Gunp’s
coast-to-coast
Pope had always dreamed of running across America, but after seeing the 1994 film Forrest Gump, he came to realize how he was to do it too-by recreating Forrest Gump’s run. Pope began his challengeon the west coast, wearing Forrest Gump’s typical shirt. He did try to stay as true to the characterhe was attempting to “be”.
Over the last two years, Pope had been recording his run in his diary and posting photos at various important landmarks where Forrest Gump arrived in the film. Fans who recognized him as the real-lifeForrest Gump helped push him on by cheering as well as singing “run, Forrest, run” as he passed by them.
“So far I’ve surpassed (超过) the number of miles Forrest achieved -15,248, by about a hundred or so. By the end I’d have run nearly 15,600.” Pope said. “I think the film is a(n) encouraging story about how we can face the life bravely and how we should treat one another. Forrest didn’t judge anyone on the color of their skin, background, wealth or anything else. If everyone could be a bit more like Forrest, the world would be a better place.”
