月前赴英时，恰有犬子女友在，乃一起吃饭聊天。知其小犬子一岁，就读哈佛，令余有点肃然，不敢小看之。犬子画蛇添足介绍谓，其现就读哈佛学院（Havard Colleges）之心理学系。余心中不免疑惑，此哈佛学院与余等所熟知之彼哈佛大学有何区别？莫不是拉大旗为虎皮者也？盖余知牛津有称“牛津商学院”( Oxford Business College )者，多有以为此学院属牛津大学范畴之内，而实际上不过一家小型学校。地道属于牛津大学的则称为“牛津大学赛德商学院”（ Said Business School, University of Oxford )。二者不可同日而语，而极易为外人所混淆也。

今查哈佛大学与哈佛学院之关系，大概是，哈佛学院为哈佛大学之本科部分，仅提供第一学位（学士），而且仅有文科。而哈佛大学尚有另外十个学院与机构，提供硕士和博士学位。故读民国书籍，或者台湾书籍，常有“哈佛研究院”之称谓，可见哈佛之主要力量乃在研究机构也。

Harvard College offers a four-year undergraduate, liberal arts program for students seeking their first degree - a bachelor's in arts or sciences. There are about 6,500 undergraduates at the College, 50% male and 50% female.
