Feng Zhou is a wonderful poet. His work paints a picture full of
emotion. You will want to settle in by the fire or lie back in a
hammock together with your special someone as you lose yourself in
this collection of poetry. You can almost smell the sea air and
feel the waves lapping at your toes. I love it when an author can
pull me into their mind and make me feel like I am seeing things
through their eyes and experiencing their feelings.I would recommend this book to any of my friends. I greatly enjoyed the time spent reading By the Sea: Poems of Love, Longing and Lust and I look forward to more work by Feng Zhou. 1 of 1 people found the following

This book is insightful in that it portrays what many of us want to

are found in this book, each one captured my attention. I love the
way the writer put them together and especially 'The Book of Love'
poem. I will read this many times and look forward to reading more

Each of these poems invoked a different feeling for me. To the
simple enjoyment of holding a loved ones’ hand and watching the
sunset, to the more carnal pleasures to be had when the sun has
gone down. I felt like I was peering through a selection of little
windows and seeing a beautiful thing. The words here are capable of
creating intense and vivid images that will stay in your mind for a
long time afterwards. I actually quoted from one of these poems in
an email I sent to my girlfriend, we’re both big fans now. And we
both loved this collection.

The best poems transport you—either to somewhere you want to be or
somewhere you long to get back to. The poems in “By the Sea” take
you right up to the water’s edge where (if the weather is right)
you can imagine yourself squishing sand between your toes,
discovering seashells, and holding on tight to the person you love
most in the world.These are, of course, love poems and like the sea and the surrounding environment—love is mercurial. These poems describe love in all of its various permutations—fleeting, tenuous, powerful or strong. In the poem “Love upon the Coastline” love is “deep and grasping” and described as “granular, delicate affections”. In “I Once had You” love doesn't last and the poem laments a relationship that will never be revived. The poem “The Love Between the Sea and the Sky” describes the love affair between our water and air—only they can fully see each other. All of these different poems about love feel so inevitable and true. I like these poems because they are each their own tiny world, poignant and accessible. The author, Feng Zhou believes that the goal of poetry is to use the least amount of words to create the biggest possible space and I believe he accomplishes that here. kidding...you really need to read them next to the one who holds
your heart. Each poem represented a power that pulled on my heart
strings. I was engrossed in the poems as if I was experiencing them

The poet/author of the book has done it all right from the very
cover page to the last line of the last poem. Growing up with
little or no appreciation for poetry I found this incredibly easy
to read and understand as well.
The first thing that struck me about this book was the poet took the trouble to describe his views on poetry and inform the reader on how to read this book to appreciate its full value, something I am glad I took the trouble to follow.
The introduction made me feel as though I was being taken by the poet's hand gently and being introduced to his work. I was eager to read more. The poems marry perfectly with the expectations set up in the introduction and the book description. I found the words beautifully clear, simply worded but they brought to mind the most vivid images and aroused some real emotion. Even after finishing a poem I found myself hearing some of the words over and over again.
The poet delivers what he promised and I am taken through this
great space and washed along the shores of the poet's world.The
theme is consistent, love and lust are described using sea and sky
themed metaphors.
I recommend this book of poetry very strongly to anyone, it is
great even for those who aren't into poetry, and is a wonderful
gift to give or share with a lover and a soul mate. Help other

Being a poet by passion and writer by hobby, I found this book so
inspiring that I felt writing a review to congratulate the author
so penning down such a wonderful collection of poems. I read one
after another poem and I got filled with feeling and joy that you
gets when one is deeply in love. I found the poems written with
passion and the different themes and senses that the poems present
are awesome.
I really liked the style of the writing specially his deep sense of
the poetic features like use of rhyme and rhythm while maintaining
the nature flow of the poem. Some poem are very lyrical in nature
and you will like to sing it while on beach. The selection of the
theme and the nature flow of the poem on different aspects of the
love and romance makes this poet a poet for common man. His writing
is simple yet emphatic in nature.
I will recommend this book to all the lovers of the poetry and
lyrics to read and enjoy this nectar of the poetry presented in
this book.
