Celebrates 150th Birthday of Kansas
New
Game Offers Original Artwork by Kansas Artists
The
Kansas Lottery is honoured to help commemorate the Kansas
Sesquicentennial by launching a special game in which players have
a chance to win an original work of art by a Kansas
artist.
The
Lottery has commissioned 10 original paintings to be second-chance
drawing prizes in a $2 instant scratch game called “Kansas 150.”
The game is being sent to Lottery retailers throughout the state
the last week of January, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of
Kansas becoming a state.
“The
Kansas Lottery is pleased to launch a game that will promote the
history and beauty of Kansas, as well as the talented artists of
the Sunflower State,” said Kansas Lottery Executive
Director Ed Van Petten. “We anticipate our
great players will support this game enthusiastically, as they do
all of our Kansas-themed games.” Kansas 150
Players
can win instant prizes of up to $10,000 playing Kansas 150. Players
with non-winning tickets may enter them into a second-chance
drawing to be held August 12, 2011. In the drawing, ten lucky
players will each win a grand prize of an original framed artwork
done by a Kansas artist. (See list below). Each prize also includes
$2,000 cash, plus the Lottery pays the mandatory income withholding
taxes on the prizes. The total value of each of the ten grand
prizes is estimated at approximately $5,000. The deadline for
entries to be received is August 9. Details of how to enter can be
found on the back of Kansas 150 tickets or at www.kslottery.
com.
The
Kansas 150 game features four of the original works of art in
alternating scenes on the front of the tickets. The official Kansas
Sesquicentennial logo is also included, along with the website
www.ks150.org.
In the
simple match play action, players will scratch off a field of
sunflowers to find out if their symbols match the winning symbols
to win an instant cash prize. There is also a bonus scratch
area.
All
artists were given the task of creating an original artwork with a
Kansas theme that would have state-wide significance. The ten
Kansas 150 Artists and the themes of their artworks
are:
1. Joe

“Cattle
Drive up the Chisholm Trail”
2.

the second time the Kansas Lottery has offered players original

away nine original paintings of the Kansas Byways done by
world-famous Kansas artist Stan Herd.
