从开始给J和G读书后，妈妈也开始有机会读很多英美经典儿童作品。 其中最让妈妈和两儿百读不厌的是Dr. Seuss的童话散文集。 一开始吸引我们的是不论有多少不认识的字（不存在的创新的字）， 每一篇他的文章都充满韵律。 再配上充满想象而且幽默的无边无际的卡通图画， 每次读的过程中和读完后妈妈和两儿都会在笑声中叽叽喳喳的讨论不停， 因为想像又继续在我们脑中延伸。 最奇妙的是， 每次再重读同一本书时， 体会的意义都不同， 特别是对妈妈。

有一天， 在J五岁时的一个晚上， 妈妈读了Dr. Seuss精选集的最后一篇名为The Places You’ll Go (你将要去的地方)， 读着读着妈妈突然觉得这本书就是妈妈想要和J和G说的， 读着读着妈妈就忍不住地感慨万千。 也许不是当时， 也许现在还太早， 不过妈妈决定在J和G每一次学习和人生的大变化时， 妈妈一定会和他们在一起读这本书。 里面的话语是妈妈想说但说不出来， 是妈妈在经历了这么多年的学习， 工作， 旅行， 喜悦和挫折之后能体会到的深刻的含义。 妈妈觉得Dr. Seuss的这篇文章应该是写给大学毕业生的， 而J和G在幼儿园就有机会开始读， 不知道等他们大学毕业时又会怎样想呢？

这本书是1990年出版的， 当时Dr. Seuss 已经86岁了。 出生于美国的Dr.Seuss1991年在加州的La Jolla去世， 一生出版了46本书。 他是作家， 是诗人， 也是卡通画家。 而妈妈觉得他更是一位哲学家。 他的书似乎是面对儿童或少儿， 却是充满了深刻的内容： 很多人生的大道理在Dr. Seuss的演绎中却充满幽默和无穷想像！ 妈妈在陆续读了20本Dr. Seuss之后开始觉得这些书其实也是写给妈妈的， 为什么不呢？
