第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,共30分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

Galaxy saw a man and a woman who communicated with the sign language at the train station when she was on the way home one evening. She noticed that the woman asked the man for the direction. He told her that he did not know. Galaxy decided to help them. She had learned the sign language when she served as a volunteer in the deaf and mute (聋哑) school. Then she showed the woman the direction and left her email address to them in case they needed her help later.

She received an email from that man the next day. Kazrim was his name. Galaxy replied his mail sincerely. They both started chatting online soon after and began seeing each other. Although they only communicated with the sign language, it never bothered her.
Galaxy was fond of him gradually. Obviously, Kazrim was the same too. He presented Galaxy with a bunch of sunflowers and asked her sincerely, “Are you willing to be my girlfriend?”
Galaxy was pleasantly surprised. She requested him to give her some time to persuade her parents.
As she had expected, her parents were very angry after they had learned of their love story.
Galaxy explained, “Kazrim is an excellent and a very optimistic person. He has a very positive attitude towards life and work. He cares for others always. He is 100% better than the normal. Moreover, the mute is still a human. He should possess a perfect and wonderful love.”

Her parents asked to see him, then. The very worried Galaxy took Kazrim home a few days later. When they were on the train, Kazrim told her, “I’m going to tell your parents that I’ll be looking after you well with all my life!” Galaxy was deeply moved.
As soon as they had entered the house, Galaxy introduced him to her parents. She said, “This is Kazrim.” Just right after her speech, an unbelievable thing happened. Kazrim threw the gift away and held her in his arms tightly.
He said, “YOU CAN TALK?” It was the same question that Galaxy wanted to ask, too.
The four people were shocked all of a sudden. As a matter of fact, Kazrim always believed that Galaxy was a mute and he still fell in love with her deeply.

56. How did Galaxy and Kazrim get to know each other?

A. They met each other by chance.

B. They were introduced to each other.

C. They once studied at the same university.

D. They both served in a special needs school.

57. How did Galaxy probably communicate with Kazrim before she took him home?

A. Writing words on paper.                  B. Using the sign language.

C. Judging from his expression.              D. Speaking her native language.

58. What did Galaxy expect her parents to do?

A. To have a talk with Kazrim.               B. To prepare for her marriage.

C. To treat Kazrim as a normal man.           D. To accept Kazrim as her boyfriend.

59. What can we learn about the two young people from the passage?

A. They fell in love at the first sight

B. They cheated each other to win love.

C. They mistook each other for being mutes.

D. They ignored the anger of Galaxy’s parents.

                                    B

Not long ago the movie 2012 came into screen. The people were threatened by those scenes of destroying flood, severe earthquake, terrifying hurricane and constructions representing human civilization destroyed and even swallowed by disaster. Luckily, they are just the director’s imagination, but the present situation is not heading a positive direction, either.

Take my own experience in Alaska as an example. Once I took a trip to the glacier. Along the way there stood signposts marking the snow lines of different years. They started from the foot of the mountain, but it was at the top when I finally saw melting glaciers(融化的冰川). My heart ached seeing the beautiful blue ice shrinking and drifting away at every second.

Sad but true, they are the effects of global warming and the result of our human impact (作用). Furthermore, each year the rising sea level will kill 56 million people, and that’s about the population of the entire Italy. According to studies, if the temperature keeps on rising like this, by the year 2050, some islands and coastal cities including New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Sydney will be drowned in water.

Our fortune is in our own hands. It depends on us to shape our future, to reduce future human impact and find ways to form a peaceful relationship with our environment. Therefore, it’s time for actions to be taken right now. Contribute a little to energy saving by using more efficient light bulbs and less hot water. Let recycle become our habit by thinking twice before throwing something away. Let us take public transportation as our first choice when going to a certain place. It might cost more time for now, but it’s to the benefit of a permanent future. Take care of every tree and grass around us by watering them or simply just avoid destroying them.

In a word, small drops of water makes a big ocean. The earth does not belong to us. On the contrary, we belong to the earth. Please bear in mind that the earth is our home. It is our responsibility to build a brighter and better future of our planet and prevent what happened in the movie 2012 from becoming reality.

60. Why does the author talk about the movie 2012 in the passage?

A. To give an example.               B. To lead into the topic.

C. To make predictions.               D. To provide the evidence.

61. How did the author feel when he took a trip to the glacier?

A. Worried.         B. Puzzled.          C. Scared.             D. Bored.

62. What does the author mean by saying “small drops of water makes a big ocean”?

A. Think twice before taking action.

B. It’s our duty to protect the ocean.

C. Everyone together can make a difference.

D. It’s important to save every drop of water.

                                    C

Since the pre-historic times, man has had an urge to satisfy his needs. For food, shelter or a mate, he has always controlled the circumstances to the best of his advantages. Probably this might be the reason why we human are the most developed of all living beings on the earth, and probably also in the universe. As we climbed the steps of evolution, we somehow left behind common sense and logical thinking — we forgot that we have stopped thinking ahead of time.
If you are hungry, what do you do? Grab a piece of your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? Just like your stomach, even your mind is hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream lover, favorite star and many such absurd things. So it silently began to pay attention to your needs and never let itself grow. When mind looses its freedom to grow, creativity gets a full stop.

Hunger of the mind can be actually satisfied through extensive reading. Now why reading and not watching TV? Because reading has been the most educative tool used by us right from the childhood. Just like that to develop other aspects of our life, we have to get help from reading. You have innumerable number of books in this world which will answer all your “How to?” questions. Once you read a book, you just don’t run your eyes through the lines, but even your mind decodes (解码) it and explains it to you. The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. Now this seed is unknowingly used by you in your future to develop new ideas. The same seed if used many times, can help you link and relate a lot of things, of which you would never have thought of in your wildest dreams! This is nothing but creativity. The larger number of books you read, your mind will open up like never before. Also this improves your speaking skills to a large extent and also makes a significant contribution to your vocabulary. Within no time you start speaking English or any language fluently with your friends or other people and you never seem to run out of the right words at the right time.
Actually, I had a problem in speaking English fluently, but as I read, I could improve significantly. I am still on the path of improvement. So, give food to your thoughts by reading.

63. Why are we humans the most developed of all living beings?

A. We have desires to climb the steps of evolution.

B. We have common sense and usually think logically.

C. We have controlled the circumstances to our own benefit.

D. We have seized the opportunities in the process of evolution.

64. What does the author intend to tell us in the second paragraph?

A. Man needs great creativity.

B. Creativity keeps on growing.

C. Our mind is developing gradually.

D. We occupy our mind with our needs.

65. Which of the following is the most important in creating new ideas?

A. Enlarging vocabulary.                B. Keeping reading books.

C. Making public speeches.              D. Acquiring knowledge on TV.

66. What can be concluded from the passage?

A. Man keeps improving himself.

B. Hunger of mind needs feeding.

C. Creativity helps the growth of our mind.

D. People can realize their dreams by reading books.

D

For anyone who is determined to be a fashion (时尚) designerit is not enough to have succeeded in college. The real test is whether they can survive, and become established during their early 20s, making a name for themselves in the real world where business skills can be as important as talent and creativity.

Fashion is a hard business. There is a continuous amount of stress because work is at a constant and extremely fast speed to prepare for the next season’s collections. It is extremely competitive and there is the constant need to make attractive advertisements of the latest fashion in newspapers and magazines. It also requires continual freshness because the appetite for new ideas is hard to satisfy. “We try to warn people before they come to us about how tough it is.” says Lydia Kemeny, the Head of Fashion at St. Martin’s School of Art in London. “And we point out that drive and determination are absolutely necessary.”

This may seem far removed from the popular opinions of fashionable young people spending their time designing pretty dresses. That may well be what they do in their first year of study but a good college won’t be slow in introducing students to commercial realities. “We don’t walk our foot on the blossoming (绽放的) flower of creativity but in the second year we start introducing the restrictions of price, producing ability, marketing and so on.”

Almost all fashion design is done to a brief. It is not a form of self-expression as such, although there is certainly room for imagination and creativity. Most young designers are going to end up as employees of a producer or a fashion house and they still need to be able to work within the characteristic style of their employer. Even those students who are most modern in their own taste of clothes may need to adapt to produce designs which are right for the mainstream of market. They also have to be able to work at both the expensive and the cheap end of the market and the challenge to produce good design inexpensively may well be demanding.

67. Which of the following is mainly discussed in the passage?

A. Talent in fashion.                      B. Good marks at college.

C. Ability to create new designs.            D. Business skills in fashion industry.

68. What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A. Fashion designers are highly motivated and really determined.

B. Good preparations for the next season can reduce stress.

C. Consumers’ appetite for new ideas keeps changing.

D. Advertisement business is very competitive.

69. How does St. Martin’s School of Art train her students of fashion?

A. To encourage the new students to design freely with imagination.

B. To require students to develop their creativity in their designing.

C. To demand students to make pretty dresses for companies.

D. To offer commercial courses for the new students.

70. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A. Lydia Kemeny’s opinion.                 B. The competitive business world.

C. The warning to the young designers.        D. The real situation in fashion industry.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项 为多余选项。

Some experts feel that the automobile is to “die”. They see a day in the not-too-distant future when all autos will be abandoned and allowed to become rotten iron and steel rubbish.    71    They think that the car will remain a leading means of urban travel in the near future.

72     It should become smaller, safer, and more money-saving, and should not be powered by the petrol engine. The car of the future should be far more pollution-free than present types.
Regardless of its power source, the auto in the future will still be the main problem in urban traffic jam.     73
When the auto enters the freeway system, a retractable arm
which can be moved inwards or backwards, will drop from the auto and touch a rail that is similar to the subway trains electrically powered from the system, and control of the vehicle will pass to a central computer.     74
The driver will use a telephone to dial instructions about his destination into the system. The computer will calculate the best route, and reserve space for the car all the way to the correct exit from the freeway.     75     It is guessed that an automated freeway will be able to handle 10,000 vehicles per hour, compared with the 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles that can be carried by a present-day freeway.

A. Other authorities, however, think the auto is here to stay.

B. The computer will then monitor all of the car’s movements.
C. One proposed solution to this problem is the automated freeway system.

D. Experts have different views on what role autos will play in the near future.

E. The motorcar will undoubtedly change significantly over the next 30 years.

F. Drivers in the freeway system can sit back and do nothing but control the direction.

G. The driver will then be free to relax and wait for the sound speaker that will warn him of his coming exit.
