斐济位于南太平洋，是靠近新西兰的一个岛国。该国的群岛共包括了322个岛屿，面积1.83333万平
方公里，当中106个岛屿为有人居住，另有522个小岛。当中维提岛和瓦努阿岛两个主要岛屿的人口
占全国的87%。国家名称是源自“岛屿”的汤加语，并变为斐济语的“Viti”。

在斐济群岛和太平洋的交汇处，各种文化在这里繁衍：斐济本土文化、印度文化、中国文化、南海
各岛文化、欧洲殖民者文化等等。不同的文化酿就了不同的食品，语言，建筑，风情。斐济保留了
许多英国殖民时期的建筑，包括总督府，苏瓦市图书馆，太平洋大酒店等。由于来自不同地区的人
们在此定居，多元文化的体系和乡村建筑都被近乎完美地保留了下来。

斐济自古就是以部落为单位所组成的国家，又地理位置居中而成为南太平洋文化的十字路口，但斐
济人仍然保留着本身的文化，以小小区的形式取代传统部落茅屋继续生活着，每个小区拥有自己的
首领，通常是最德高望重的酋长担任，小区中大小争执都可由公开的聚会来裁决。
