Maria是匈牙利科学院经济研究所的学者，因为做转轨国家的比较研究，从2000年起多次来访。起初我陪她，给她介绍经济学家，渐渐地，她打开了自己的局面。我们兴趣相投，成了朋友。61岁的她，充满了活力。去年１月，我去布达佩斯特住在她家，她丈夫说，我知道你们为什么那么好了，你们俩特像。我去，参加了她的合唱团活动；她来，也参加了我们的合唱活动。过地下街道时，俩个人在阶梯上手拉手飞奔，快速地跳跃，欢快游戏。以前来中国，她有时住在我家里。2005年儿子住院时，我不能陪她，儿子长期发烧，为了避免感染，也不让她来病房，她语言不通，无处可去，常常搬个椅子站在阳台上张望。不停地给我打电话，期待退烧了，她来和我们呆一会儿。

   上个月，她又来了两个星期。因为和同事一起，平日参加学术活动，周末住到我家来。有一天，她从HOTEL发给我下面的图片和信。再见面，当我们一起赞叹，赞叹树，赞叹生命时，突然，她说：“你就像这颗树！”哇，怎么敢当?!

   不过，我当然想，我太想了，像这树，即使铲断了根，也挡不住长，还枝叶绽放，傲然挺立。

I am forwarding a picture that I have received     from my Portuguese friend about a tree em Porto Velho, capital of Rondonia named Ipe which was cut out in the forest, and was placed on a street as a column to hold the electric wires and the tree recovered its life and begun to florish. It is in the letter that later the authorities recognized its energy to live and transfered the wires onto a concrete column. Today this tree is the proudness of that street in Porto Velho. I think this is a wanderful and stuggering symbol of life energy despite human destruction.
