Errands Day

My
life is simple and simple. After work and chores, what I like to do
is just watching the clouds, or reading a novel. So even running
errands is a thing to me. And then this is the errands running
day.
So after the final phone call to Estee Lauder, I went to Fairview Mall to buy Tony a USB flash drive. We have several at home, but he said they are all too small, and the 32 GB one was just broken. Would you say a 16GB USB is too small? I really have no idea what he is using the huge space for. I have a 1GB USB, which I brought from China, around 10 years old, and still working perfectly. I haven't found it's small at all. Anyway, I have to get the at-least-32GB for him. After so many times visiting this mall, I still cannot figure out where is where, even with the map. So I asked a guy working at a store where the Source is. The Source is where I was going to get my USB. The guy told me the direction and then said Costco sells USB and is much cheaper. He has just got a pack of 4 for $16 from there. See, you have to talk to people to get useful information and get your life easier. We go to Costco once a week and it never crossed my mind that they may carry USB. Since I was already there, I went to the Source to check what they would offer. They were expensive. 32GB, most of them are around $80. I was thinking of ten bucks for a USB before I left home, such a tiny thing. And besides, aren't digital things getting cheaper every day? Then I saw headphones and cordless home phones. I need them too. Our home phone is too old and not charging properly. I will check them all at Costco. If they carry USB, they must have these things as well.
Since I was still a bit excited from the Estee Lauder phone call, I tried to make my Fairview Mall trip more productive. So I checked LCBO for summer promotion, and then Virgin Mobile for our cell phone plan to make sure anywhere within Canada calling and receiving is charged at local call, because we've planned to travel to the east later.
And then I rushed to the hair salon to get my haircut. It was 30 mins late of my appointment. I thought it couldn't be busy on Monday, but it was. So I had to wait. After haircut, I rushed to supermarket to get some grocery, and then public library to pick up my books.
It was way past lunch time after all these errands. I was hungry. Tony was probably home and hungry after morning exam. I had to cook for him so I couldn't just grab something for my lunch. I thought about takeout from the supermarket, but it was a hot day, so the food will taste bad in the plastic container after sometime sitting inside the steaming car. Costco was not far, I could get it done in half an hour probably. Besides, the frozen lamb roll and meat I just bought would be melted soon, so I had to hurry. Tony was already a bit mad at me for not getting the USB for him yesterday, so I did not want to delay it any longer.
Speaking of Costco, it's a place you are easy to get addicted. They do have great stuff, high quality and low price. So they get lots of loyal customers and you have to pay to be a member to shop there. And they check your membership card at the entrance and check-out too, and they check your items against your receipt at exist. That makes me feel a bit bad about them. Assuming customers are bad at the first place. Assuming they may fraud, they may steal. But they still get lots of customers anyway.
I found the USB. They do have $16 pack, of 3 instead of 4 like the guy had said. But they are 16GB, and 2.0 version, and the store staff said the new ones are 3.0 version, and are 10 times faster. Then the $16 pack definitely doesn't meet Tony's requirement. The 3.0 version 32GB was $28, way cheaper than the Source. I grabbed the USB, and got some more grocery, and then lined up to pay. It seems many people are free on Mondays. The lines were long. At Costco, they have two staff working at one check out, one scanning and checking out, one putting items on the conveyor belt. I don't get the point why they hire extra employees to do the stuff which is usually done by customers.
And then I lined up at the exit to let them check my receipt and the things in my shopping cart, and then I rushed home. I took me an hour instead of half an hour. The lamb roll was probably melted. Tony was probably hungry and getting cross. And then I was home, finally. It was 3:00pm. First thing Tony asked was, where is my USB. I looked down at the grocery bags, getting confused. My mind went blank. No memory at all about the USB. Where did I put it? Quickly I went through my purse, and went to check the car. Nothing. The day was getting hotter.
I felt like an old lady, with dementia. I must have left it in the shopping cart, though I had no memory of it at all. Then I told Tony to please suffer hunger a bit more, and I would go to Costco right away to see if I was lucky enough to get it back. So I rushed back. I parked exactly where I had parked before. And the returned shopping carts right at my right. From the volume of carts, I could tell my cart was gone. I peered into the carts. Then a staff that collects the carts walking over. I was speaking half to him half to myself. I said I think I left my USB in my cart. He was like, Oh, I just picked up one from a cart, and I handed it over to the customer service desk. Can you believe it? Thinking how many cart collecting staff they have here, and this is the one just got my USB and now coming back standing in front of me. Of course I got my USB back. I've been always lucky on this. Once I put my digital camera in my bike basket when digital camera was a new thing, and then I went to office and forgot to take it. My office building was the same building with student residence and cafeteria, and there were heavy traffic all the time. You wouldn't hope it could still be there. After about half or one hour, I realized and rushed back, and the camera was right sitting where it was, safe and sound. A lot more lucky stories. I'm a lucky person after all.

I told you I hate shopping. I hate running errands with rush.
Really, different people live different life styles. I've always
been living a slow and simple life. I will just keep my own pace.
Why rush?
