Song
She is not fair to outward
view
As many maidens be,
Her loveliness I never knew
O, then I saw her eye was
bright,
A well of love, a spring of
light!
But now her looks are coy and
cold,
To mine they ne'er reply,
And yet I cease not to behold
Her very frowns are fairer far
Than smiles of other maidens
are.

她的确没有漂亮的外表，
还不如许多少女俊俏，
直到她对我莞尔的一笑，
我才知道了她的姣好；
啊，看到了她明亮的双眸
那是爱的井泉，光的源头！
如今她却神情腼腆冷淡，
对我的热情总是漠然，
虽然从她眸中仍能看见，
爱情的光芒熠熠闪现：
即便是皱眉蹙额的容貌，
也远比群芳的笑靥美妙。

译注：
此诗由两节六行诗（sestet）组成，六行的音节数分别为8, 6, 8, 6, 8, 8；即1、3、5、6行为8音节，2、4两行为6音节，形成4音步或三音步的抑扬格诗行。韵式为ABABCC，DEDEFF。中文采取尽量靠近的原则，在2、4、8、10行比其他行少用一个字，韵式为AAAABB，CCCCDD。
