书写数字

规则 1. 大于九的数，用数字表示.

 

 正确例子  I want five copies.

I want 10 copies.

 规则 2. 要保持前后一致。

 

  正确例子   My 10 cats fought with their 2 cats.

My ten cats fought with their two cats.

 错误例子:  I asked for five pencils, not 50. 

 

规则 3. 真分数要拼写出来，并用连字符连接 

  例子: One-half of the pies have been eaten.

A two-thirds majority is required for that bill to pass in Congress.  

 

规则 4. 除了在句子的开头外，假分数都用图形的表示 

  例子: We expect a 5 1/2 percent wage increase.

Five and one-half percent was the maximum allowable interest.  

 

规则 5. 表达大数的方法是使用大约数来表示出来。但要注意前后一致

  正确: You can earn from one million to five million dollars. 

  错误: You can earn from one million to $5,000,000. 

  正确: You can earn from five hundred to five million dollars.

  正确: You can earn from $5 hundred to $5 million. 

  错误: You can earn from $500 to $5 million. 

  错误: You can earn from $500 to five million dollars.  

 

规则 6. 用图表示小数，前面要加0，除非小数本身以0开头 

例子s: The plant grew 0.79 of a foot in one year.

The plant grew only .07 of a foot this year because of the drought.  

 

规则 7. 在包含小数点时，如果整数部分的位数大于等于5位时，需要加逗号分割。在拼写的时候亦如此。但是，如果没有小数点，可以不加逗号分割。

 

例子s:

$15,768.13: Fifteen thousand, seven hundred sixty-eight dollars and thirteen cents

$1054.21: One thousand fifty-four dollars and twenty-one cents

1,054 schools OR 1054 schools: one thousand, fifty-four schools OR one thousand fifty-four schools

12,154 schools: twelve thousand, one hundred fifty-four schools       

 

规则 8. 日期的格式请采用下面的格式: 

  例子s:  The meeting is scheduled for June 30.

The meeting is scheduled for the 30th of June.

We have had tricks played on us on April 1.

The 1st of April puts some people on edge. 

 

规则 9.  表达年代时全部使用小写

 例子: During the eighties and nineties, the U.S. economy grew. 

 

规则 10. 不全使用数字时，在前面加上省略号

  正确: During the '80s and '90s, the U.S. economy grew. 

  错误: During the '80's and '90's, the U.S. economy grew.  

 

规则 11.全部使用数字表示年代者不加省略号

  例子:  During the 1980s and 1990s, the U.S. economy grew.  

 

规则 12. 时间一般使用字母表示。 

  例子s: She gets up at four thirty before the baby wakes up.

The baby wakes up at five o'clock in the morning.  

 

规则 13. 当强调具体的时间或者带am.pm时，使用数字。

  例子s: Monib's flight leaves at 6:22 A.M.

Please arrive by 12:30 sharp.

She had a 7:00 P.M. deadline. 

 

规则 14. 使用 noon 和midnight，而不是使用12:00 P.M.和12:00 A.M. 

 

规则 15. 21-99之间添加连字符（Hyphenate）

  例子s: Forty-three persons were injured in the train wreck.

Twenty-three of them were hospitalized. 

 

 

规则 16. Write out a number if it begins a sentence. 

  例子s: Twenty-nine people won an award for helping their communities.

That 29 people won an award for helping their communities was fantastic! OR

That twenty-nine people won an award for helping their communities was fantastic!
