越来越多的赴美留学生考虑选择STEM专业，为什么呢？因为专业性强高大上啊，好找工作啊，而且最重要的是可以申请17个月的OPT延期，等于一共有29个月的OPT，拥有两次H1B抽签机会，这可是让所有非STEM小伙伴羡慕嫉妒恨的！

STEM 是 Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics四大类专业的缩写，但事实上，真正属于STEM之列的专业远远多于这四种，全部列出的详细专业名称则多达400余种。 比如动物学，环境学，心理学甚至管理学都是有可能在STEM之中的。为了吸引更多优秀勤奋的国际学生，2012年，美国国土安全部扩大STEM专业名单。新增的专业包括医药学，计量经济学，数量经济学等制定学位课程。

一般专业毕业的学生可获得12个月的OPT, 但如果专业属于STEM，就能申请17个月的OPT延期，等于一共有29个月的OPT，可以继续工作等待明年的抽签。在现在OPT结束之前的120天内都可以向移民局提交延期，但是要注意的是，OPT延长期间，每一个雇主都需是E-Verify的公司。
