Unit7 What does he look like?

Section A

Teaching aims:

1.     Learn the description words about persons’ appearance.

2.     Learn the target languages about how to describe people’s looks.

        A: What do you look like?

          B: I am…, and I have….

          A: What does he/she look like?

         B: He/She is…, and He/She has….

3.     Through listening, students train their listening skills.

4.      Don’t judge others by appearances.

Teaching difficulties and important points:

Learn to describe people’s looks correctly.

Master the description words about persons’ appearance.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Leading-in and showing the learning aims

T: Who is your favorite star?

S1: My favorite star is…

T: I also have my favorite star. Can you guess who he is? Let me describe him for you.

T: He is an actor.

He is of medium height.

He is of medium build.

He has short black hair.

He is very famous.

He can do Chinese kung fu well.

   Who is he?

Ss: He is Jackie Chan.

T: In this class, we will learn to talk about people’s looks.

(Show the learning aims and ask students to read together.)

Step 2. Check the homework (自主学习,预习检测)

   如何询问人的相貌?_________________

   回答:1.身高_____ _______ _______

              2.体形_____ ________ _______

              3. 头发:

                       长短:______ ________

                        卷直:______ _______

                        颜色:_____ ______ _____

Step 3. Pair-work(对话展示)

   Show some pictures and ask students to talk about the persons in the pictures using the target language.

    A: What does he/she look like?

   B: He/She is…, and He/She has….

Step4. Group-work(小组合作)

Ask students to work in groups to discuss where we should use “is” and where we use “has” when we describe people’s looks.

And then ask students to show their result.

Ask students to do the work of 2a. Circle “is” or “has”.

Step5. Listening 1b & 2b

1)    1b

T: I have a good friend. Her name is Amy. Look, this is Amy. Now she comes to the station to meet her friend. But there are so many people. She can’t find her friend. Can you help her?

Ss: Yes.

T: Listen to the tape. Work on 1b. Help Amy find her friend, Ok?

Ss: OK.

(The teacher plays the recording. Then check the answers.)

2)    2b

Play the tape recorder for students.

Students listen and fill in the chart.

Check the answers together. And then ask students to make a report.

Step6. Guessing

   T: Choose any student or teacher in our classroom. Describe him or her. The others guess who he / she is .

   Ask some students to describe and others guess.

Step7. Exercise 3

Show the picture of Lily’s friend and ask students to talk about her look.

And then ask students to complete the conversation.

Check the answers together.

Ask students to read by themselves to recite the conversation.

Step8. Reading

 T: Lily has another four friends in the class. Do you want to know them?

Please read the descriptions and match them with the pictures.

1)    Ask students to match by themselves.(自主学习)

2)    Ask students to read again and answer the questions.(自主学习)

   1. Is Wang Lin the captain of the basketball team?

2. Is Xu Qian thin?

3. What does Xu Qian like doing ?

4. What does Mike look like?

5. Does Mary have long straight brown hair?

3) Group-work(小组合作)

Work in groups and underline the phrases.

Show their work to others and others take notes and make suggestions.(展示交流)

4) Retell the descriptions according to the form..

Step9. Exercise(当堂检测)

根据所给汉语完成下列句子

Writing:
