 2. To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about the stages of an invention

 3. To develop Ss’ some basic reading skills

 4. To develop Ss’ ability to discover and solve the problems and cultivate Ss’ creativity and imagination

Teaching Procedures:

 Step I.  Warming Up

 Purpose: To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about the difference between a discovery and an invention.

1.  Show students some pictures of some famous people and ask them why they are famous

2.  Show the difference between a discovery and an invention

3.  Let the students decide on whether the pictures are inventions or discoveries

Step II. Pre-reading

Purpose: To get Ss to be aware of the connection between inventing and the scientific process

1.  Use your previous experience to order the stages that every inventor must go through

Step III Reading

Fast Reading (Fill in the blanks)

Purpose: To get Ss to have a brief understanding of the text

Main Idea: The text is mainly about the author’s experience in helping her mother get rid of the ______ and applying for her_______.

Careful Reading (three tasks)

Purpose: To get Ss to know the pattern of the text and the detailed information
