              Period I   section A  (1a—1c)

Teaching aims

1.      Language goals

Key vocabulary: guitar, sing, swim, dance, chess, draw, speak, join, club.

2.      Target language: I want to join ….club.

Can you play the guitar?

                Yes, I can . /No, I can’t.

               Can you swim?

               Yes, I can , / No, I can’t.

3.      Ability goals

           Train students’ listening and speaking skills.

Train students’communicative competence.

 4.Moral goals

Encourage students to express their abilities.

Teaching key points

         Key vocabulary : guitar, sing, swim, dance, chess, draw, speak, join, club.

        Target language:  I want to join…club.

Can you …?

                       Yes,I can. /No,I can’t.

Teaching difficult points

         I want to join …..club.

        Can you ….?

        Yes,I can ./No,I can’t.

Teaching methods

       Listening and speaking methods.

      Pairwork.

Teaching tools

     A tape recorder.

     Some sports things ,such as basketball,etc.

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Greeting

Step 2 New words

(1)   Show some spots things,such as a basketball.

T:What’s  this ?(Hold up a volleyball.)

Ss:It’s a basketball.

T:I can play basketball .I like playing basketball.

In this way,let students understand the meaning of “can”.

Show some pictures on the screen by the projector.

T: Look at the picture.He is singing. I like singing .I can sing.

(2)   Read after me ,S-I-N-G,sing.

S: S-I-N-G,sing.

(Let students look at some pictures and teach other new words and phrases in the same way such as dance ,swim, play chessdraw, speak English.)

     Step 3 Practice

         Present the new drills .

         Can you do…?

         Yes ,I can ./ No,I can’t.

         T:I can sing .Can you sing?

         S:Yes ,I can.

         T: Can you play chess?

         S:No,I can’t.

     (Ask another two students to practice,then writes down the drills on the blackboard.

     Practice the new words.

 T: I can sing .I want to join the music club. Can you draw ?

Ss:Yes ,I can.I want to join the art club .

(The students do 1a and the teacher checks the answers.)

Present the new drills .

I want to join ….club .

In our class ,there are five clubs.do you know?

S: They are …

T; Yes.The Art Club, the English Club ,the Chess Club,theMusic Club and the Swimming Club.

(Repeat this drill and then ask the student like this “Can you sing?”)

S1:No,I can’t . I can swim.I wan to join the swimming club .Can you swim?

S2:Yes,I can .I want to join the swimming club,too.

(Practice the drills like this .)

  T:Now ,let’s look at 1b,listen and mumber the conversations [1—3].

(Play the recording and then check the answers.)

Step 5 Groupwork.

  Let students to ask their partner about their abilities according to the drills in 1b.

Step 6 Summary.

Step 7Homework

Go over the words in this class.

Make up dialogues using”can”.
