Unit 6  What are you doing for vacation?
Section A 1a—2c   课型:听说课
付村一中 闫丁

Language points:
1.在语言交际中运用下列句型,如:
—What are you doing for vacation?
—I’m babysitting my sister.
—When is he going?
—He’s going on the 12th。
要掌握短语有:visit my grandmother/cousins, spend time with my friends, relax at home,
go camping, go to the beach.
2.技能目标:能听懂有关熟悉话题的谈话,能与他人沟通信息,参与讨论。
3.情感目标:能体会英语学习的乐趣,能在小组活动中积极与他人合作,相互帮助,共同完成学习任务。
4.重难点:使用现在进行时表示已安排要进行的动作,以及特殊疑问词what, when, who等在现在进行时态中的运用。
Teaching method: Task—based approaches
Teaching steps:
Step 1  Warming up activity
Ask several students some questions
May Day is coming. Do you want to know my vacation plan?  Present My vacation plan by showing a picture of Happy Farm. Supply students some talking material like going fishing, going camping, going to the beach etc.
Happy farm is a popular game on the Internet. So this picture must arise students’ curiosities about the topic we’ll talk about in this class.
Step 2  Presentation
Suppose Jane, Michel or Hector who are mentioned in the listening material are my Internet friends. Create two chatting rooms and present the model sentence patterns to talk about the future plan using the present progressive tense, like I’m visiting my grandmother on May Day; I’m relaxing at home on Sunday etc.
Step 3  Listening and reading practice
  Ask the students to follow me to the chatting rooms and find out what they are doing for vacation. Arrange them to finish the different tasks.
Chatting Room 1. Listen and number the right order.
Chatting Room 2 Listen and fill in the chart.
While listening, ask students to pay more attention to the form be+ ving It can be used to talk about the future plan. After listening , ask them to read the chatting record. In fact, it is another way of presenting the listening material. Ask them to repeat the sentences one by one to correct their pronunciations and intonations. Of course, the sentences in blue are also important points, these may remind the students of some special question words like what, when, who etc.
Step 4  Analysis sentence patterns                         
                                                                                                         
After reading, the teacher makes a summary about the sentence patterns which are probably used in the listening practice. Ask them to watch ,think and compare.
1.—What are you doing for vacation?
  —I’m visiting my grandmother.
2.—When is she going?
  —She’s going on the 12th.
3.—Who are you going with?
  — I’m going with my mother.
这三组句子都使用了________时态,其结构形式是 ________。它既可以表示正在发生的动作,也可以表示已安排要发生的动作,意思为________。
    此外,还应注意要根据动作、时间、人称和地点等采用不同的特殊疑问词_______,______,_______,_______等来进行提问。想想还可以用到那些疑问词。
Step 5  Talk about your vacation plan
Pairwork  Discuss the vacation plan according to the chart.
Groupwork  Do a survey of vacation plan. Ask the students to make up their own conversations using the patterns they have learnt just now. While practicing, encourage them to ask questions as many as possible, like Who are you going with? How long are you staying? How are you going there?
This step is mainly to train the spirits of corporation, helping each other to share vacation plans together.
Step 6  Follow your dreams
  Supply a mind map to the students. Design your own vacation dreams and try to use what we learnt in this class to describe your dream vacation even though some dreams which are impossible in our daily life. This really shows learning by doing.
Step 7  Consolidation
  Deal with some exercises about the language points in order to consolidate the contents they learnt in this class
Step 8  Remember
  Remind the students of playing computer games. It’s interesting to play computer games, but playing too much is bad for our health.
Homework
1. Think over about what we learnt in this class. Try to solve the questions existed in this lesson.
2. Write down your dream vacation.
