1.The printing press is a machine that can make lots of books in a short time．印刷机是一种能在短时间内印出许多书的机器。
【巧解句构】整句话是给印刷机下定义，是一个含有定语从句的复合句。
that call make lots of books in a short time是一个定语从句，用来修饰和限定a machine。that在从句中做主语。
【要点剖析】1）lots of=a lot of可以修饰不可数名词(= much)，也可以修饰可数名词的复数(= many)。意思都译为“许多”。

2.Before the printing press, books were written by hand.
在有印刷机以前，书是用手写成的。
【巧解句构】written是动词write的过去分词。此句是一般过去时的被动语态。被动语态的结构是：be+过去分词。be动词随时态变化而改变形式。
             例如：English is spoken by more than 400 million people as their first language.英语被4亿多人作为母语来说。
3.If you forgot something, you could look it up.
如果你忘记了一些事情，你可以查书。
【巧解句构】if意为“如果”，引导条件状语从句。if引导的条件状语从句常用一般现在时态表示将来，主句用一般将来时态或含有情态动词。
【要点剖析】look up是动副短语，表示“（在书、字典里）查找”，当宾语是名词时，可以放在两词的中间，也可以放在两词的后面；当宾语是代词时，必须放在两词的中间。
