Unit 4   What would you do ?
单元备课
一、教学目标
   知识目标 : 语言目标: What would you do if you won a million dollars ?
I would give it to medical research.
I can not sleep the night before an exam . what should I do ?
If I were you, I would take a long walk before going to bed.
词汇: million, medical, research, tie, worry, pimple, energetic,confident, bother ,slight, annoy, fairly, plenty, listener, knowledge
get along with, come up with ,let down come out
拓展词汇:thousand, billion, hundred, fair, annoyed,  listen
语法:1虚拟语气    2用should用于提建议
能力目标:
1学会谈论一些假设的虚拟的情况;
2学会如何使用虚拟句提出建议;
3学会表示与现实情况相反的虚拟语气的结构;
4学会用虚拟语气表述自己还没有实现的愿望。
情感目标:通过本单元学习,学会如何面对现实及如何提出合理的建议。
二、教学重难点

教具: 单词卡片、录音机、图片等
四、教学方法
以任务型教学模式为主,辅以学生预习-----自学-----自查,情景教学,学与练相结合,单词循环记忆等多种方法。
五、课时安排
共4课时:1 词汇突破与语法聚焦 :让学生识记生词,并拓展部分词汇,通过练习进行检测;让学生掌握虚拟语气的结构几现在与将来情况相反的用法。
          2 听说课:通过听说两个方面训练学生如何谈论想象的情况
          3读写课:通过读写两方面训练学生学会对现实情况提出合理的建议。
          4综合训练课:通过测试检查学生知识的掌握情况,学生自读课文,提高阅读能力,教师最后补充总结。
六、学习策略与思维技巧
1先识词,结合句子掌握单词的用法及意义。
2通过听的练习,理解对话句型练习。
Unit 4  What would you do ?
The first period
一、Teaching   aims
(一)、Knowledge goal:
(1) 四会词汇(Key words) Teaching aims: New words and Grammar
million,medical,research,worry,pimple,exam,energetic,confident,per-mission,herself,bother,slight,annoy,fairly,plenty,circle,listener,knowledgea-ble,represent,first-aid,deep,burn,knee,spotty etc.
(2) 拓展词汇(Supplement words)
billion,hundred,thousand,medicine,examination,die,lie,tie,himself,its-elf,ourselves,yourselves,themselves,getonwith,knowledge,near,upstairs,correctly,safe permit  ect.                
 (二)   Ability aims
(1) Talk about imaginary situations
能掌握生词中的同义词、近义词、反义词、易混词及构词法等。
初步理解并运用语法知识——虚拟语气。
(三)Teaching important and difficult point
New words and expressions.
Understanding and using the grammar--------Imaginary situation
   (四)  Teaching aids
         recorder, some pictures, cards and computer
Teaching method
Let students prepare the new lesson first, Then teach them.
Teaching course
New words: there are 48words in this unit. Divide three parts.Part1 from million to herself.Part2 from bother to rest.Part3 from aid to spotty. After learning each unit, then have a dictation till master them.
Step1 预习(prepare lessons before class)
Let students look at the new words and find out important words,
Synonyms,antonym,simple mixed words and word-formation
Step2 提问与讲解(ask and explain)
Ask a few students to say them first,Then correct their answers, finally explain new words grammar.
Example:
 *Explain million,think of billion、hundred、and thousand
这些词都修饰名词与具体数字连用,不用复数
eg.One hundred, Two billion, three million, four thousand.
没有具体数字时,构成millions of, hundreds of, ect.
Eg.millions of cars.数百万辆车
*Explain research, think of search and in spedion
*Explain permit, think of permission
*Explain fairly, think of quite, rather and pretty
*Explainexam, think of examination
*Explain herself, think of other pronounself ect.
All above the words, must explain the differences in them
Step3  Read after the teacher
在领读之前,先把较难读和发音不规律的单词作归纳,给他们划分出音素段及记忆规律。然后带领学生读数遍,直至掌握读音为止。
Step4   Remember words
给他们介绍记单词的方法,找出其规律(词型、词性及构词法)让他们巧计单词。
Important grammar_______Imaginary Situation
Step1 Review all kinds of tense we have learned.
Step2 Explain the new grammar:
Definition:表示与现在事实相反,而只是一种愿望、假设、怀疑、建议、猜测可能或纯粹的空想。
Structure:If+主语+动词过去时(be的过去时一律用were)或主语+would+动词原形
Functions:与现在事实相反,主句用过去将来时,从句用一般过去时,be动词用复数形式。
Eg. If I were you ,I wouldn’t do it.
Step 3  Activity design and research study
Scene 1  Talk about imagining scene.
A: What would you do if you won a million dollars?
B: a million dollars? I’d give it to medical research.
Scene 2  Ask for and suggestion
A: I can’t sleep the night before an exam, What should I do?
B: If I were you , I’d take a long walk before going to bed.
通过讨论想象的情景,提高语言运用能力,进一步掌握句型
What would you do if…? I’d do…结构。

The  Second  Period
(Listening  and  Talking)
Step 1 Test   Dictate the words from million to herself
Check the grammer  if+ subject + past forms of verbs +subject +would +verbs
Step2 Presentation    Ask students to look at a picture of Americans first stepped on the moon .
Do you know the event?  Students answer yes,
Have you ever been to the moon? They say no . Today we are going to learn how to talk about things like that have not happened to us.
Ask students : If you were on the moon , what would you do?
                                I would find something interesting.
                                I would talk to the world etc.
Ask students to find more answers.
Step 3  Pairwork
Let’s talk about the topic :If you had a lot of money, what would you do ?
Talk about it in pairs,give students several minutes,then ask them to answer.write down some phrases:
Give it to charity
Put it in the bank
Buy snacks etc..
Step4  Listen
   Here are four persons, what would they do if they had a million dollars. Listen and write down the answers
Boy 1 
Girl 1 
Girl 2 
Boy 2 
Listen again.
Check answers.
Step5  Listen   
   Look at the picture of 2a .the boy is getting ready to go somewhere and he is feeling a little nervous .His sister is helping him pick out what to wear. Listen to the boy and girl talking to each other. Then circle the reasons he is nervous.
Check answers.
   You will hear the same recording again. This time check the things that Larry’s sister says to him. Ask students to fill in their answers.
Check the answers.
Step 6 Teamwork
  Ask students to read Larry’s worries of the box. Then let each pair of students make a conversation using information from activities 2a and 2b.
Ask several pairs to say their conversations to the class.
Step 7 Task
Here are some problems. Ask students talk in groups.

Step 8 Listen
Celia is asking Bill questions from a personality survey.  Ask students to put a check in front of the questions Celia asks.
Check the answers.
    You will hear the same recording again . this time listen to both the questions and answers .Circle the letter of the correct answer to each question . ask students to give answers one by one.
Explain some points

Step 9 Groupwork
Ask students to make a survey about personality in groups.
What would you do if you were in trouble?
                  Your classmates took your books?
Ask several pairs to say their conversations to the class.
Step 10 Listening test(See 《同步听力》Unit 4 Part One Page 13)
      First listen ,then check.Tell the students how to improve listening skills
Step 11 Homework
1. Go over the last part of  words .
2. Write an essay , 60----80 words ,If you lost your way in a big city what would you do ? Write down your advice.

(Reading and Writing)
Step1 Revision
Check words from bother to rest. Have a dictation. Fill in the blanks in sentences with the first letter.

Ask several students to give advice. then ask students to read the advice of 3a.

Read 2a personality survey questions and answers. Fill in the blanks in the results with “a” “b” “ c”.

Some important phrases: let…down, come up with, what if, in the slightest, plenty of, get along with(get on with), come out, make speeches, at lunch time, be terrified of…, get out of, be afraid of, get pimples, speak in public, medical research, etc.
Some important sentences:
*I’m really tired,I’ve been studying all day.
*I don’t like making speeches,I feel nernous talking in front of many .people
*If you were more friendly to people,you would have more friends.
*My stomach feels terrible,I think I ate something bad at lunch time.
*Paul is a bit shy at first,but when he knows you ,he talks a lot.
*What would you do if you cut yourself by accident? Etc.
Ability aims
Make sentence with these words: nervous, shy, tired, terrible, friendly.
Can write a reply in part 2.
Try to make conversation using imaginary situation.

(六) Teaching course
 Step 1 Before class,Review the words in these parts first (about five minutes),then have a small dictation,Finally look over the words in groups,till master them.
Step 2  Self-check 1:  Let students prepare the sentences and fill in the blanks on their own first, Then check the results(ask a few students to say their answers, Next correct them in class), finally Let five students to come to the Bb to make sentence with these words.
Step 3 Self-check 2
  This activity provides reading and writing practice using the target language.
 (1) Let students prepare it and find out new words、phrases and important sentences
   (2) Read the instructions to the class.
   (3)Ask a pair of students to model the sample e-mail.
   (4) Review the task:
Ask a few students to read their replies to the class,and share their solutions.Answers will vary.
Step 4 Reading: What would you do if…?
(Section 1)
Draw a picture of a sad face on the Bb,Ask students what things in their lives make them sad and act it.
 Ask students to tell you why ideas have been separated into two columns,Then head the left column,Accidents,and the right one,problems.
Divide the class into several groups.Ask them to discuss the two questions and note down  A) a List of accidents,and  B) What the group decides is the biggest problem’ for teenagers.
Share each group’s ideas and compare the results, Make sure students understand the differences between an accident’ and a ‘problem’.
            Section (2)While You Read
Let students prepare this dialogue and find out some important sentences
Read the dialogue to the class,and explain the important sentences.
Give the students five minutes to master these sentences.
Ask students to repeat the reading aloud in pairs, changing over for each page.
Section 3  After You Read
3a  (1)  Ask students to pool the knowledge they have to answer the two questions
  Discuss the answers in groups.
3b  (1)  Ask students to go through the accidents mentioned in the reading,and discuss how serious each one is.
  Discuss the answers with class.
3c  (1)  Ask each students to answer the questionand check,or not check the box..
Have a class discussion to see how many students share the same experience,and followed the advice given in the book.
Homework design
Master the sentences in self-check 1 and reading.
