Unit 2   Is this your pencil?
Section  A
Type: Communicative and interactive lesson
Date: September 11th
Knowledge and ability objects:
Students master the key words, such as this eraser ruler backpack dictionary that thank. And also they can read them, say them, understand them and can answer questions about their owners.
Enable the students to communicate with others using the target language. They can ask questions about the ownership.
Moral object:
Students should take good care of their things. If something doesn’t belong to you, give it back to its owner.
Process and methods:
Students learn the communicative competence by using the key vocabulary and the target language.
Procedures:
Step1. Collect some items from the students and ask:
       What’s this in English?
       What’s that in English?
Help them answer like this: It’s a/an ……
Have them work in pairs to practice the questions .(G)
Provide more words by showing the students the picture in 1a by asking:
What can you see in the picture? Collect their answers. Also ask them to finish 1a by themselves. Check their answers.
Step2. Pretend that you don’t know whose these things are and ask A:
Is this your book? And lead him/her to answer: No, it isn’t. Then take another one and ask its owner: Is this your backpack? Help him/her to answer:
Yes, it is. Have the students ask and answer in pairs.(maybe when they do this , they’ll make mistakes, so the teacher come to them and give them help if necessary.) Then ask them to act their dialogues out. (Q)(A)
Step3. This activity provides listening practice. Students listen and finish 1b when the teacher plays the tape. Check their answers with the whole class. Play the tape again, have them listen and repeat.
Step4. Get the students to work in pairs to practice these conversations(Q)
     A: Is this your pencil?
B: Yes, it is. It’s my pencil.
     A: Is that your backpack?
     B: No, it isn’t. It’s his/her backpack.
Ask them to practice in groups.(G/A) walk around the classroom to check pronunciation and intonation. Then call some groups to perform their conversations in front of the class.
Step5. Summary
In this class, we’ve learnt the names of some common personal possessions and how to identify ownership. Can you sum up the way to find the owners? Give them chance to do this and see if they can do it.
Step6. Homework
Read the key words and the target language presented in this class and make their owner conversations to improve their spoken English.

Note:
1. When the answer “Is this/that your ………?” question, a few of them made mistakes like this: “No, I’m not” instead of “No, it isn’t”
2. They were confused when they answered “Yes, it’s my book” some of them said “Yes, it’s mine book.” I think it impossible for them to understand the difference between them. Maybe when they practice more, they will make them clear.
