六、阅读表达:
Art is fun. It caters to the basic creative instinct (本能) which is present in everyone. It can bring a great feeling of achievement, especially to children who have not been able to gain much sense of success from their efforts in life. It also helps backward children to develop mentally and physically. Their confidence grows as they experience success in art, and a confident child learns more easily than a tense (神经紧张的) one.
Art is particularly valuable to mentally disabled children who find it difficult to communicate their ideas and emotions and even to understand them themselves. These children may find that painting is easier than talking, and through painting they are able to express ideas, emotions, and reactions to situations and experiences.
Children need to communicate in two ways. Firstly, they have to convey the information to other people, often about their immediate requirements concerning both tangible things — “I want to drink” or “I want to mention something” and less tangible things “I want you near me”. Secondly, ___________ with themselves. If they don’t have words to use, their minds are a disorderly mixture of responses to which they can only react emotionally, often with frustrations.
Art forms such as music, dancing, acting and story-telling can give children satisfaction and offer opportunities which may be of help to children either individually or collectively (集体的) by entertaining them in a controlled situation so that many problems can be avoided.
In general, the teaching of art in schools should be encouraged and more attention should be paid to it, especially in schools which have disabled children.
