阅读下面短文,用英语简要回答文后所给的5个问题。

  Las Vegas, Nov.21--- Fire spread from the kitchen through the Grand Hotel here just after daybreak. About 3,500 people were inside then. The fire officials said that more than 80 people were killed; most died from taking in smoke, and two jumped to their deaths from the 20th floor of the 26-storeyed hotel. Several hundred were injured. The fire spread through the first and second floors, but no one phoned the Fire Department. Very soon the thick black smoke rose 5,000 feet above. Many guests said that they were awakened by knocks on the door or the sound of breaking glass as people made way to safety from the smoke.

  Reading English newspapers can help you learn English. So it’s a good idea to make good use of an English newspaper. When you read the newspaper article, read the subheadings before you stats. And when you read the first passage in the text, if you meet 4 or 6 new words in the first sentence, that means it is difficult for you to read the article. You’d best choose another article to read.
