单元学习目标

语言知识

1.词汇:掌握词汇whether, tower, thick, whole, weigh, ton, including, human, farther, farthest, bridge, list, anybody, kilo, guitar, impossible, lift, pull

   接触词汇 ordinary, locate, length, astronaut, dam, gorge, whale, average, bumblebee, bat, gram, centimeter, Thailand, tortoise, cheetah, falcon, unusual

2.词组和句型:break /hold a world record    打破/保持一项世界纪录

     be located in/ on                座落于;位于

     on average                    通常; 一般来说,平均起来

     on record                     记载下来的,有记载的

     four times as…as…,            是……的四倍

     find out                       了解;发现

     all over the world               遍及全世界

     That’s wonderful/great.          太好了。

1.        掌握形容词比较级的用法,以及if 的用法。

2.        掌握词汇ordinary, take turns, break a world record, hold a record.

3.        了解在社交场合如何使用欧美国家表示感谢的用语。

指点迷津

1.      How can ordinary people break a world record?

普通人怎么才能打破世界记录呢?

Ordinary 普通的,平凡的,平常的 

e.g. I know myself very well. I am just an ordinary teacher, nothing special.

break a world record 在此指“打破世界纪录”

 [拓展]  hold a record 保持纪录 

You hold a world record for the world’s funniest dinosaur.

     Set a new record 创新的纪录

         Not long ago, Liu Xiang set a new world record for the 110 meters hurdles.

2.      We could take turns. 我们可能轮流。

Take turns 意思是“轮流(做某事)”后面可以跟at/in +doing 或to do.

例1 In class we should not talk all at the same time; we should take turns at talking/ to talk. 在课堂上我们不该同时说话,我们应该轮流说。

2I’ll take turns with you looking/ to look after our mother.

  我要和你轮流照顾咱妈。

 [拓展] by turns 介词短语“轮流” ,“轮流做某事”也可以表达成 do something by turns 如:

We take turns to clean the blackboard.我们轮流擦黑板。

=We clean the blackboard by turns.

3.      We could play soccer for a week without stopping.

我们班可以连续不停地踢一周足球。

Without 介词 “没有,不,如果没有/要是没有(表条件)”

同常见介词一样,后边常跟名词,代词、动名词作宾语。反义词为with.

 如:

1 He often goes to school without breakfast. 他常不吃早饭就去上学。

2 I won’t be able to finish the work without your help today. 你要是不帮忙我今天完不成工作。

3 He sat at the desk without doing anything. 他坐在桌子旁什么也不干。

4. I don’t know whether it will make you tall. 我不知道这么做是否会使你长高。

Whether 意思是“是否; 无论是……或……”如:

1 I wonder whether I will be fine tomorrow. 我不知道明天天气好不好。

[拓展] whether/ if辨析

(1)    在从句中, 尤其作为动词的宾语时,whether 和if 可以替代使用,一般在口语中用if替代whether。

(2)    在句首作宾语的从句中,用whether. 如:whether she is married I don’t know. 我不知道她是否结婚了。

(3)    Whether 后接to 不定式时,不可用if 代替。如:I don’t know whether to stay or not.
