Step1 Warming-up
A. Watch the video of the text.
B. Help students to revise what was learnt in Period one of this module.
C. Show them some pictures about Project Hope. Have the Ss. talk about them.
D. Revise the Present Perfect Tense
1. Have you heard the latest news?
2. Some scientists have sent a spacecraft to Mars.
3. And have the astronauts discovered life on Mars?
4. But astronauts have already been to the moon.
5. We have just watched a programme on TV.
6. They haven’t discovered life on Mars yet..
7. Astronauts have already landed on the moon. etc.

Step 5 Explain the important and difficult points
1. Liu Sanzi is an eight-year-old boy from a village in Hunan Province.
2. Now they can go to school with the help of Project
Hope.
3. He stopped going to school a few years ago.他几年前不上学了。
He stopped to have a cup of tea.他停下来去喝杯茶。
4.Because of Project Hope, thousands of children have better lives.因为有了希望工程,成千上万的孩子们过上了更好的生活。
because of表示“因为”,后面接名词或名词短语。如:
He didn’t go to the park because of the rain.因为下雨,他没去公园。
注意:介词短语because of后面需接名词或名词短语,而使用连词 because 时,后面就要接一个从句。如:
Step 6 Writing
A. Use words like and, or and but to join two sentences.
Example: Project Hope has built schools and trained teachers.
Project Hope hasn't built factories or trained doctors.
Project Hope has built schools but hasn't built hospitals
Now write more sentences.
Possible answers:
and: Project Hope has raised money in China and abroad.
but: Project Hope has helped 2.5 million children, but 40 million more still need help.
or: You can give money or help build the schools
