Lesson 27

1 Learning Aims(学习目标)

1 Master the words and phrases about places: shopping centre, parking lot, bank

2 To learn how to describe position. Master the key expressions: beside/ by, across from, in the bottom/ top let/ right corner

Patterns: What’s that place beside the shopping centre?

V Revision(课堂回顾)

Ask students some questions about last two lessons

1 What places are there on Jenny and Brain’s way to school?

2 What’s Jenny’s favourite store?

3 What places are there on Brain’s map?

4 What places does Jenny draw on her map?

VI New concept

Step 1 Take out the map of your community. Show it to the class. Teach new words according to a map

beside/by ---------There is a book store beside our school.

across from= opposite to---The movie theatre is across from the shopping centre.

补充 next to--------The bookstore is next to a school.

betweenand--------The post office is between the video store and the bank.

on the left/right (of)------- The school is on the left of the shopping centre..

Step2 Listen to the tape with following questions

  What’s beside the shopping centre?

  What’s the square in the top right corner?

  What’s the square across from the parking lot, to the right?

Step3 Listen to the tape Again and help find out the places

Grocery store

Step 4 Read the text silently and check the answers. Then read it loudly in roles in pairs. Act the dialogue out in front of the class.

Step5  Read the dialogue and then Fill in the blanks to consolidate the new concept

  There are many places on the map. The coffee shop is ___________ the video store. The shopping centre is _______________ the parking lot. The book store is in the _______________ corner. It’s ________ the bank and the bank is _______ the book store and movie theatre. There is a school _______ the parking lot. Can you find all the places?

Step 5 Develop the students’ ability

 Have the students prepare a map before class and after learning this lesson, make up a similar dialogue in class. Play the game in groups in four. Cover a part of your map. Then let the others in the same group to guess what it is. The student who can guess more places than others is the winner.

A:Shall we play a map game. It’s very interesting.

B:Ok. Let’s begin
A:My first question is, what’s that place__________ the (theatre)

B:I don’t know where the (theatre) is?Ask again.
A: I see a square in the _____ ______ corner.What is it?
B: That’s ________.

Step 6: Summarize the key points of this lesson, encourage the students to make a conclusion.

Step7 Homework

  Make up a dialogue according to the map presented in class and write it down
