英文里有一个词 overuse，解释为 use too much or excessive use，是过度使用，过度开发的意思。比如：

overuse of digital devices 过度使用电子设备

overuse of credit  信用的过度使用

Video game overuse 电子游戏的成瘾

internet overuse 互联网的过度使用

overuse paper products 过度使用纸制品

overuse slogans  过度使用口号

overuse penalty  过度使用惩罚

overuse of drugs and alcohol  药物和酒精的过度使用

antibiotic overuse  抗生素的过度使用等等，都可以用到这个词。overuse 往往造成一定的负面效果，要么是匮乏 run out of 要么是addiction 上瘾， 从而影响自己的日常生活。

还有一个词是abuse，程度比 overuse 更甚，解释为滥用、妄用或者辱骂、毁谤等。

比如Abuse of power 滥用职权；

Abuse of authority 滥用权威；

drug abuse  滥用毒品；

abuse of trust 辜负别人的信任；

abuse of alcohol 滥用酒精

Animal abuse 虐待动物

Child abuse  虐待儿童

也有abuse your health 这样的说法，搞垮身体。

注意英文中以ab开头的词可以有“不”、“反对”、“错误地”的意思，如normal——abnormal 解释为异乎寻常的，不正常的，反常的。所以这个abuse 的英文解释是 about the mistreatment of people or systems，即对人或制度的错误对待或处理。

从overuse 过度使用 上升到abuse 错误使用（滥用），破坏的程度无疑又加剧了一步，导致最终产生无法挽回的后果。比如最近我感觉自己的健康有被overuse之嫌，如果我任由自己abuse，相信很快就便会尝到苦果。

就连电脑overuse多开几个页面也很容易死机，任何的过度比如过度放牧、过度耕作、过度开发，最终尝到苦果的便是动词的行使者——我们自己。无论是资源、感情、信任、健康等等，对 abuse 和overuse，除了合理使用以外，只有一个词可以解决，叫珍惜。
