和Moment in Peking相比，看这本书感觉有点吃力。林老学贯中西，引经据典，再加上一此生僻词的使用，增加了阅读的难度。但这本书思想性很强，细细读完之后，受益匪浅。我已经看到Chapter Four，阅读笔记就从这一章开始吧。

Chapter Four: Ideals of Life

4. This way of dodging the horns of the dilemma sometimes gives peace of mind for a moment. 要理解这句话，就要知道一个习语"be on the horns of a dilemma(to be in a situation in which you have to choose between two equally unpleasant or difficult situations)"。这句话大意为：回避这样的两难之境，心灵可获得片刻的安宁。

5. take the bull by the horns: 这也是一个与horn相关的习语，其意思是"to bravely or confidently deal with a difficult, dangerous or unpleasant problem"。

17. Sacred and Profane Love: also called Venus and the Bride, an oil painting by Italian painter Titian, painted around 1513-1514. It supposedly depicts the bride dressed in white, sitting beside Cupid and being assisted by Venus in person.

18.Nirvana: an ancient Sanskrit term used within Indian religions to describe the profound peace of mind that is acquired within liberation; literally means "quencing" or "blowing out"
