katy perry出生于加州圣巴巴拉.由于生活在一个基督徒家庭.因此Katy从小在教堂里唱歌.听着基督教音乐长大。
长大的katy疯狂着迷于Alanis Morissette和Freddie Mercury,但宗教音乐依然情有独钟.于是,当时年仅16岁的katy在2001年以Katy Hudson这个名字在Red Hill Records发行的一张基督徒唱片.之后,katy的曲风也慢慢倾向于流行音乐。
17岁时katy在Glen Ballard的指导下看是学习写歌[Glen Ballard,1995年制作Alanis Morissette的冠军歌曲Jagged Little Pill].几年后,葛莱美奖提名的音乐制作团队Matrix[曾与Avril Lavigne,Shakira和Korn有过的合作]计划录制他们自己的专辑,并邀请Perry成为团队两名主唱之一,但最终项目被搁置。
在2006年.Katy出了一首名为”Goodbye For Now”的歌.她当时谈论到了自己在演艺圈里挣扎的情形.,就像她以前出CD的低销量.

终于.她的歌被Virgin唱片公司的首席执行官(CEO) Jason Flom听到了.他觉得Katy有唱歌的潜质。
