天宝寨位于重庆江北区最东边的五宝镇，天宝寨建于山顶最高处。

据说，寨子建于宋朝理宗嘉熙四年（1240年）至开庆元年（1259年），历19年，是南宋抗元军事防御设施之一。后来，清朝嘉庆二年至七年（1797-1882年）白莲教起义，起义军经河南、陕西入川，再经达县到江北厅。江北厅通令，为防白莲教，“各地建立城堡坚壁清野”。

此寨子作为防范白莲教土寨之一。
