The Prospect of Chinese Energy Sector in 2009
There has been substantial change of supply and demand in the energy sector since 2008. Based on the analysis by researchers of composite climate index for coal, oil and electricity sectors, it is predicted that coal price for 2009 will fall gradually as a result of decreasing demand and ample supply, and that a feasible balance will maintain between supply and demand for oil for the same year. As for electricity, researchers believe that the market in the year of 2009 will be characterized with a decline of demand growth rate and subsequently an oversupply.

Oncoming Crisis in the Enterprises with High Energy Consumption
Nie Weiduo, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, observes that China’s high energy consumption industries such as building, steel, and transportation, are currently expanding themselves without vigorous overall planning. He argues that whole life cycle assessment is needed for building energy consumption, and that a strategy of total amount control should be taken to transportation energy consumption and it should be made clear which kind of transportation is encouraged or discouraged.

Observation: Winter Season Come to Coal Industry
Having interviewed on the spot coal industries located in Beijing, shanxi, and Qinhuandao, reporters find that as a result of the hit by Financial Crisis, Coal mines with small scale and low production capacity will inevitably go bust, thus a seed is bred of assignment and merge. The historical huge increase and decrease of supply of and demand for coal, might well bring into existence new methods of block trading for coal market.
National Energy Administration: Debut of New Role
The national energy working conference was held first time in 17
years, and the newly established National Energy Administration
handed in its first test paper. Has this new performer really
picked up new role given that China’s energy situation is currently
in a complex drama? National Energy Administration treats
structural adjustment as main work. For it, coordination of
governments at different levels when carrying out macro energy
policy is still a difficult task.
