Do you like Hip-Hop? Hip-Hop is now very popular in the world.
Hip-Hop is a new kind of music. Today, Hip-Hop music is a big
business. Hip-Hop artists make millions of dollars. They are
superstars and have many fans all over the world. But Hip-Hop
wasn’t always so popular. It’s only about thirty years old. Hip-Hop
started in New York. Young people in New York wanted to make music,
but they had a problem. Many of them did not have enough money to
buy expensive instruments. They also did not have any place to
practise. Hip-Hop was the perfect answer to this problem, as
Hip-Hop artists did not need any special instruments and they could
practise anywhere.

time as Hip-Hop. At first, breakdancing was like fighting.
Breakdancers had “battles”. Each breakdancer did his best to dance
in the contest. Then the people who were watching decided which
breakdancer was the best. The winner didn’t get any money, but they
didn’t care. Dancers just wanted to be the best breakdancer on

Don’t talk to me. I’m busy with
my iPhone.
Riding a London subway, a
person from other countries will notice one major difference: in
London, people do not look at each other. In fact, eye contact is
avoided at all times. That’s not impolite—people are just too
busy to bother looking.
Busy doing what, you ask? Well,
they’re certainly not using the time for a moment of quiet
thinking, nor are they reading a book. New technology has replaced
quiet habits. Today the only acceptable form of book on the London
underground is an e-book.
Apple must make a lot of money
from London commuters(乘车上下班的人). Since the
launch of the iPhone in 2007, over 40,000—yes, that’s
40,000—“Apps” (programs
downloaded for the iPhone) have been designed.
Commuters love them because
they are the perfect time-fillers. One“App”, called Tube Exits,
tells passengers where to sit on the train to be closest to the
exit of their destination(目的地). ISteam clouds
the iPhone screen when you breathe into the microphone. You can
then write in the“steam”on your phone
screen.
For those without an iPhone,
another Apple product, the iPod, may be
distraction(消遣)of choice. It’s
not just teenagers who“plug
in”to their music—iPods are a popular
way to pass the time for all ages.
And if games, e-books and music
aren’t enough to keep you occupied. Then perhaps you
would prefer a film. The development of palm DVD technology means
many commuters watch their favorite TV show or film on the way to
work. With all this entertainments, it’s amazing that people still
remember to get off the train.
53. What does the underlined
word “occupied” in the last
paragraph probably means____?
A.
delighted
B.
relaxed
C.
amused
D. controlled
54. Which of the following
statements is true according to the passage?
A. iPod is not popular with the commuters of old ages in
London.
B. With the time-fillers, commuters usually miss their
destinations.
C. Apple has provided over 40,000 “Apps” since 2007.
D. Those who are fond of war games can download iSteam to their
iPhones.
55. What does the passage
mainly tell us?
A. London commuters are very busy.
B. Apple has created a lot of popular games.
C. What London commuters are busy doing on the
underground.
D. How London commuters pass the time on the subway now.
D.
It is reasonable to say that every teenager can be affected
by peer pressure (从众心理) at some point. Every day, in any high school, peer
pressure has a major influence over the behavior of teenagers. It
can be as subtle (微妙的) as being asked to be late for class or
as extreme as a dangerous drug. Whether subtle or extreme, peer
pressure can have damaging, sometimes life changing, and even
serious results.
“Teens don’t often consider the long-term
results that some behavior can cause,” said Terri Price, a
researcher. “Peer pressure can be very difficult to handle for many
teens because of their fears of not fitting in”. Peer pressure has
always been part of teen life, but teens experience
it differently than their former generations did in
the past. Sources of peer pressure have increased because of the
Internet and other electronic communications.
Recognizing peer
pressure can be as simple as noticing that you have been asked to
do something that you are not comfortable with. “Listen to your
instinct (直觉) , which is a sign for whether something is right
or wrong. If it feels wrong, then most likely it is. ”says
Price.
Teens are in a time of life when they
are still discovering who they are. Many teens are influenced by
peer pressure because of their insecurities (不安全感). This can make them helpless especially when their
self-control is weak or they lack healthy support, causing them to
take risky behavior or turn to unhealthy support.
Dealing with peer
pressure is a topic of concern for teens. People can say, “Just say
no,” but the truth is that the statement is easier said than
done.
56.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refers
to __________.
.
A. the
Internet B.
teen life C. peer
pressure D. the fear of not
fitting in
57.You can know whether a teen suffers peer pressure by
watching ______.
A. whether he often
surfs the
Internet B.
whether he can get security
C. whether it is subtle or
extreme
D. whether he feels comfortable
with it
58.Teens are easily influenced by peer pressure because
__________.
A. they don’t have the
feeling of safety.
B. they are afraid of fitting in or being
accepted.
C. they need support for their health.
D. they have nobody to turn to
when in trouble.
59. The writer wants us to ________ by writing the
article.
A. know about peer
pressure
B. care more about teens
C. deal with peer
pressure
D. understand the behavior of teenagers

In Japan, there are national festivals for girls
and boys. These festivals are called Girl’s Day and Boy’s
Day.
Girl’s Day is also called the Doll’s Festival. The
Japanese celebrate it on the third day of the third month. On this
day, a girl’s parents prepare a table in the best room in the
house. They put a red cloth on the table. Then they put steps on
the table. They arrange a set of fifteen special dolls on the
steps. The dolls represent the royal family in ancient
Japan.
In the festival, many girls wear the traditional
kimono(和服).
They have parties with their
friends and eat rice cakes and drink a
special rice wine. The wine has no alcohol in it, so children can
drink it. After the party, the family has a traditional dinner for
the girls in the family.
Two months after Girl’s day, On May 5, the
Japanese celebrate Boy’s Day. Today they call it Children’s Day.
People fly banners(旗)on their houses. The banners are made of paper or cloth,
and they look like fish. When the wind blows, the fish fill with air and seem to be swimming. These
banners represent a type of fish called the carp. The carp is a
strong and brave fish. It swims up the rivers with great difficulty
and doesn’t give up. People hope the boys will grow to be strong
and brave like the carp.
The iris is an important flower on Boy’s Day
because its leaves look like a sword. Japanese children are very
