We are writing to let you know about an article that has recently been published in Molecular Neurodegeneration, an open access journal. Given your area of research, we thought that you might find this article about neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease of interest and hope that next time you are preparing a manuscript you might consider submitting it to the journal.
In this article, the authors provide evidence that amyloid beta oligomers, but not monomers or fibrils, induce retraction of neuronal processes and cell cycle events. They further show that these events are cell autonomous and require the activation of the PI3K-Akt-mTOR signaling pathway. These studies therefore describe a novel signaling pathway by which soluble amyloid beta peptides contribute to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease.

Molecular Neurodegeneration is an open access, peer-reviewed research journal published by BioMed Central. All research articles in the journal are immediately and permanently available online for all to read and use free of charge. Molecular Neurodegeneration is tracked by Thomson Reuters and will receive its first Impact Factor in June 2009. We have calculated Molecular Neurodegeneration's unofficial 2007 Impact Factor to be 4.00. The journal is also included in PubMed, PubMed Central, BIOSIS, CAS, Scopus, PsycINFO and Google Scholar.
Molecular Neurodegeneration publishes articles on all aspects of neurodegeneration research at the molecular and cellular levels. The journal is advised by an international Editorial Board. A full list of the Editorial Board members is given at the foot of this message, and is also available on the journal website.
The journal offers thorough peer review, online submission
and immediate publication on acceptance. The published version of
your article will immediately be placed in PubMed Central, ensuring
the high visibility of your research. This complies with the
NIH Public Access Policy and the Wellcome Trust Open Access Policy.
