Abstract
Objective: To investigate the localized metabolic changes in patients with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome and compare with themselves after stereotactic capsulotomy. Methods: ROI such as orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), anterior cingulate gyrus (ACG), caudate, thalamus were drawn by a positron emission tomography (PET) technician. Ratios of each ROI to ipsilateral hemispheric glucose metabolism (ROI/Hem) were calculated. We compared pre-operation regional glucose metabolic changes with post-operative one in same patient. Results: FDG-PET were examined in pre-op and 6 month after operation, which demonstrated remarkable difference. Conclusion: Procedure of both MRI guided and Surgiplan System devised capsulotomy is more precise and safeguard than previous stereotactic procedure. It is indispensable that Capsulotomy does decrease regional hypermetabolism, which might be related to mechanism of surgical treatment of Tourette syndrome.
