加拿大是全球七大工业国之一，但我总觉得它在政治上是个小国。因为它历来扮演了除了英国之外另一个忠实地跟着美国跑的角色。在国际上几乎听不到它自己的声音。这次游渥太华国会山却给我留下了相当深刻的印象。它的总体布局，建筑风格，纪念碑群及环境景观终于让我感受到了一种大国政治中心的气度。

国会山中心区的和平塔，原名叫维多利亚塔，1916年被大火烧毁，重建于1919-1927年，改名和平塔。是为了纪念一次大战中在欧洲牺牲的六万加拿大士兵。
