新加坡杰出青年奖是本地最高荣誉的青年奖项，奖项在1975年设立，得奖者必须是团体或35岁以下的青年。他们不但须在本身领域有所成就，还须具有服务社区的精神，以作为青年的楷模。
本地歌手林俊杰表示：领取这个奖项的感受，与领取音乐奖项的感觉非常不同。他说，领取音乐奖项是跟其他音乐人坐在一起，奖项是对一首歌或编曲的肯定；但领取这个奖项是跟新加坡的杰出青年同座，奖项是对他人生的一个肯定，也是对他从服完兵役到现在，多年努力的肯定。他说，这个奖项是国家颁发给他的，让他感到更加荣幸，也让他觉得虽然多数时间在海外工作，但与新加坡始终有联系。

SINGAPORE: A pop
singer, a film maker and a wine merchant are among this year's
recipients of the Singapore Youth Awards.
新加坡讯:一位流行歌手，一位电影制片商及一位酒商是今年新加坡青年奖得主。
JJ Lin is one of Singapore's most recognisable musical exports,
having made a name for himself in the regional Chinese pop
scene.
林俊杰是新加坡最受公认音乐出品家，在中国流行音乐界他的名字已经占有一席之地。
He entered the charts with his debut album "Music Voyager" in 2003.
He is also a strong supporter of children's charities.
2003年他的首张专辑乐行者进入音乐排行榜，他也是儿童慈善事业最大支持者。
Both Lin and film director, Ho Tzu Nyen, who made his Cannes debut
this year with his film "Here", will receive the award for their
contributions to arts and culture.

Nyen都将因为他们对艺术所作贡献及文化获得颁奖。
Besides making films, Ho is
also a visual artist and lectures regularly at
schools.

is being recognised for his entrepreneurial
skills.

The annual awards are given
out to outstanding Singaporeans under the age of
35.

Three
other individuals will also be conferred the accolade - Lina Chong,
for her work in youth leadership development, Tong Joo Chuan for
his work in the sciences, and national sailor Koh Seng Leong for
his contribution to sports.
另外三个人也将被授予荣誉-Lina Chong因为她在青年领导力发展中心工作，Tong Joo Chuan 因为他的工作在科学领域，以及国家选手Koh Seng Leong因为他为体育所做贡献。
Recipients will
receive their awards at the Istana on Sunday.

In all, six individuals bagged the award in five categories, which honour Singapore citizens or PRs below 35 who have achieved distinction in their fields of endeavour and provided excellent service to the community.

This year, the limelight is on pop star JJ Lin, 27, and artist and film-maker Ho Tzu Nyen, 32, in the Arts and Culture category.

Ms Lina Chong, 30, Assistant Manager for Student Development at Nanyang Polytechnic, won in the Community and Youth Services category.

Mr Clinton Ang, 35, the managing director of wine company Hock Tong Bee Pte Ltd, was honoured in the Entrepreneurship category.
Clinton Ang先生35岁，在Hock Tong Bee Pte有限公司担任总经理，在企业精神类别得到荣耀。
Dr Tong Joo Chuan, 31, principal investigator of the Institute for Infocomm Research, excelled in the Science and Technology category, while national sailor Koh Seng Leong, 25, turned out tops in the Sports and Adventure category.

The chairman of the SYA panel that picked the winners, Mr Edward Alec D'Silva, said the winners' intense commitment to both their jobs and the community gave them an edge over other candidates.
在评选优胜者的SYA评审团主席Edward Alec D'Silva先生说，得奖者给他们工作及社会比其它候
选人更优越强烈承诺。
"The winners are at the peak of their game," he said.Artiste and music producer Lin, who was absent yesterday because of a concert in China, is a big hit in China and Taiwan. He is also an active contributor to charitable organisations like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Children's Cancer Foundation.

Others, like Ms Chong, credited their achieve- ments to the help provided by their families, mentors, and fellow volunteers.

When Ms Chong was hospitalised last year for a "major illness", fellow grassroots leaders stepped up to fill the gap.
当Chong小姐去年因重大疾病住院，基层领导同事赶紧填补空缺。
"That made me realise that it was the team players around me, not me, who kept my passion for community work going," she said.
她说“这让我意识到它是围绕在我身边团队成员，不是我，谁持续我的热情为社会继续工
作。”
