experience  

n./ vt.经历,阅历;经验,感受,体验

We all learn by experience. 我们都从经验中学习.

* He hasn't had enough work experience (ie experience of work) for the job. 他做这项工作尚无足够经验.

The play was so boring, I could hardly keep myself from falling asleep.

 

Stop sb/sth from doing sth prevent sb from doing sth or sth from happening 阻止某人做某事; 阻碍某事物发生:

I'm sure he'll go, there's nothing to stop him.

我肯定他要去的, 没法阻止他.

* You can't stop our going/us (from) going if we want to.

假若我们要去, 你是阻止不了的.

* Can't you stop your son from getting into trouble?

你能不能制止你儿子别惹上麻烦?

* I only just managed to stop myself from shouting at him.

prevent sb/sth (from) doing sth stop or hinder sb/sth 阻止或妨碍某人[某事物]: prevent the spread of a disease/a disease from spreading 防止某种疾病的蔓延

Nobody can prevent us/our getting married. 谁也阻止不了我们结婚.

 * Your prompt action prevented a serious accident.

* I wouldn't be saying this unless I were sure of the facts. 要是我对这些事情没有把握, 我就不说这话了.

* I sleep with the window open unless it`s really cold. 我总是开着窗户睡觉, 除非天气非常冷才关上窗户.
 用法:  *unlessif...not的用法常常是相同的:

 Follow the green signs unless you have goods to declare/if you haven't any goods to declare. 未携须申报货物者, 沿绿色标记通行. 

 *unless不可用以指尚未发生的事情之结果, 因而不可用於‘假想的’条件句中: We would have had a lovely holiday if it hadn't rained (NOT unless it had rained) every day. 要不是天天下雨的话, 我们的假日就过得痛快了. (本句中不可用unless it had rained.)

 * I'll be sorry if she doesn't come (NOT unless she comes) to the party. 万一她不来参加聚会, 我就感到太遗憾了. (本句中不可用unless she comes.)

 *unless(并非if...not)常用以引导出补充前言的话, 即是对刚说过的话想到要加些补充: She hasn't got any hobbies unless you call watching TV a hobby. 她没有任何嗜好--除非把看电视也算作嗜好的话.

 * Have a cup of tea unless you'd prefer a cold drink.

喝一杯茶吧--除非你想喝冷饮.

  I think you should complain - unless, of course, you are happy with the way things are.
  He won't go to sleep unless you tell him a story.
