之前我在写essay的时候用错了一个词，我这样写道：“Previously, I only did commonsense management.”中国人会很容易误用这个词，因为字典中把这个词翻译成为“常识”。

    在中文里，常识表示凭感性知晓，不专业的知识，而英语当中西方人并不认为感性知晓的知识就一定不专业。韦氏字典这样解释道：“sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts”也就是说，common sense指的是凭感性知晓的谨慎的判断，属于褒义词。例句如下：

    Obey the laws and use common sense when operating your boat.

    She is very smart but she does not have a lot of common sense.

    我想到的是中国人对“常识”看轻是有文化上的原因的，中国人历来讲求出身，比如出身达官贵人肯定很好，如果出身贫寒，通过自己的努力考个翰林学士也是出头之路，科班出身的人必定比自学成才的人更受尊敬。西方虽然也讲究名校毕业，但是他们同样尊敬self-educated man。

    相比学校或专业，我们也许更应该看重真实能力。
