Cantonese
Food

There has been an old saying
‘Eat in Guangzhou’. Canton has a great reputation for its delicious
food, and if you have dined in any of Guangzhou’s traditional
restaurants, you’ll surely agree with that idea.
Cantonese food doesn’t have strong flavors, but its gentle, fresh
taste would certainly impress people. The meaning of Cantonese food
is important, too, so I think Cantonese food is also a kind of art.
Because of its unique style, our Cantonese cuisine is well-known
throughout the country, even in the world.
As
Canton is located near the sea, its people have a special taste for
seafood. The crabs, shrimps and fish made into various kinds of
dishes can make you salivate. Also, you can find many sorts of wild
animals on your dinner table. It’s so special and so curious! Many
foreigners would be astonished to discover dog meat or snake soup
in the Cantonese food menu. It might be true that ‘anything with
four legs could be eaten except tables and chairs’.
To
experience the best of Cantonese food culture, you’d better go to a
‘cha lou’ (tea house). The custom of ‘yum cha’ (drinking tea) can
give you deeper insights into Canton’s old customs. Sipping tea
leisurely and tasting dumplings, chicken feet, porridge and style
noodles, etc., you might as well discover the shadow of the
Cantonese society. You can make friends, arrange business talks,
welcome guests and relax yourself there.
