Books

From
papyri to scrolls, from common paperbacks to modern electronic
ones, books have influenced human life for thousands of
years.
Joseph
Edison once said, ‘Books are the legacies that a great genius
leaves to mankind.’ The wisdom in books has cultivated innumerable
scholars who could pass on their own wisdom to the future
generations through books.
Books
have always been my good company. When I was a little child, I
could find great joy in the presence of books. I would indulge
myself in Aesop’s Fables or Grimms’ Fairy Tales. I could have a
laugh at the circumstances in the stories and acquire some
principles of life as well.
As I
grow up, books become more and more important. I can find thrilling
plots in all kinds of detective stories. I can find sober wisdom in
books about philosophy. I can fly with Harry Potter in his magical
world. I can communicate with famous scientists in scientific
books. I can be fascinated by the vivid or even wild imagination in
science fictions. I can deeply feel the rich literary talents
flowing in the works of famous literary giants. Reading enriches
the mind. Books can nourish our souls with knowledge and add much
color to our lives as well.
Books
never speak, yet they can be sincere advisers. Books are my patient
teachers that can always answer my questions in detail. Books are
my loyal friends that can always give me a hand when I’m in
trouble. Books never abandon me. They’re always ready to console me
and give me hope.
‘To know
what great men of the past have thought, said and done is to feel
the heartbeat of humanity down through the ages.’ This is what
Helen Keller once said. Through books, we can cross the limits of
space and time. We can learn the words of sagacity passed on for
centuries, preserved in the pages of a book. We can also know what
has happened in other parts of the world by reading books from the
other areas. Books can open our eyes to the outside world. Books
can provide us with a deeper insight into ourselves and help us
understand the things happening around us. Without books, we would
be a prisoner of our own ignorant, blank and small
world.
Books
can pump happiness and strength into my blood. Books were, are and
will always be there for me. Books, you’re always silent, yet
you’re always my true friends!
