A Trip in
Midget Land
By Zhongwanting
It was Monday. The sun was
shining brightly in the blue sky. The sky was as blue as
the clear
water. There were white clouds in the beautiful sky.
Everything was lovely. Oh, what a beautiful
morning!
Linda, a
forth grader, was walking slowly through the little path to her
school. The warm sunshine made the birds happy. They flew about
above Linda and sat on the pretty flowers under the trees. Linda
often stops to hear the birds singing, admire the beauty of the
flowers and smell the fragrance of them. Maybe she was a little
giddy so she thought she was late. She didn’t stop to greet to the
little creatures.
‘Linda! You’re so early
today! Why?’ someone cried.
Linda
turned round and saw her friend, Jenny, walking tardily behind,
waving to her. She was surprised.
‘Oh, well, I’m so late!’
Linda sighed. ‘It’s 8:30 now!’
‘But it’s only 7:00! You’re
dizzy or your watch is.’ Jenny said, walking up to her. ‘What’s the
matter? You look tired.’
‘I had a great dream last
night, very great.’
‘Yes?’ said Jenny, looking
very curious.
‘Let me tell you about it.
It sounds interesting, too.’ Linda smiled and told jenny her
dream.
Linda was
sitting at her little brown desk alone. Everyone was asleep in the
house, but she was still working on her composition. She had been
thinking and working on it all day, but she had not finished it
yet. Linda put down her pen, looked at her cat, Kitty, and yawned.
Then, she closed her exercise book and looked through the window.
The houses, trees, schools and rivers outside was dim, because it
was so dark. Linda stood up and glanced at the clock on the wall:
it was one o’clock.
“well,
it’s too late. I’m so sleepy that I can’t open my eyes! I think I
should take a nap, then, I can write out this article.’ She stood
up. ‘OK. I shall just finish it tomorrow. Oh, I hate it.’ A
glowworm passed by, but she was too tired to play with it. ‘is it
too wet that made me weary, or, I’ll have some water?’
Linda
lay on her bed when she heard a strange noise. ‘What’s that? Bugs?
Mice?’ she whispered to herself, and jumped up at once. She took a
stick and bent down… There, near the bed, stood two mice, one was
thin and the other one was very fat. They were talking.
‘she is the right person!
Will Gracy be happy?’
‘Absolutely. She is so
beautiful, thin, tall and white. Exactly the best bridesmaid in the
country.’
‘Shh. Be quite. Start
now.’
they
became silent. Linda walked toward them and snatched them quickly.
The mice were astonished, but they were calm soon
afterwards.
‘What are you doing?’ Linda
asked angrily.
‘We have no ill-willed
purpose.’ The fat mouse smiled and said. ‘Set us free,
please.’
Linda
grabbed them tightly. ‘Well, we weren’t talking about you. Now, set
us free. I’ll give you a sweet.’
Linda
took the sweet and ate it. Then, she put the mice on the floor.
Suddenly, she felt uncomfortable. She looked up. My goodness! The
desk and bed were so large and the mice were as big as she was!’
I’ve been cheated by them`!’ she said, and shouted at the mice
sulkily, “What do you want for me?’
