This past week has been the Shanghai Film
Festival. Although I did not attend the
festivities, I got to see my friend Marco Muller who is the Mandate
of the Venice Film Festival. Also, I met up with
two great directors, Jia Zhang Ke, and Lu Chuan.
These are two directors that I aim to work with in the
future. Lu Chuan’s cameraman who is very
talented was there as well. I also met a famous
Japanese actor who is set to star in Jia Dao’s next movie but I am
unfamiliar with his work.
Jia Zhang Ke, who won Best Director in the
Venice Film Festival and the Asia Film Festival for his movie Still
Life, is a sweet guy who I look forward to seeing and being in his
future works. Lu Chuan, who is best known for Ke
Ke Qi Li is a director I yearn to work with. Not
only do I admire his work so much, but after meeting him last year,
and getting to know him recently, I would be honored to take part
in one of his films. Perhaps, it is because he
has been educated in U.S. and speaks English that we get along so
well. Perhaps it’s because we are both
Aquarius. All I know is that he is very devoted
to his craft, and he is very talented. In my
career, all I want is to do a project that people will always
remember me for and agree that I was a good actress in
it. Being in one of his films, I feel I would
accomplish that.
Coming to China to develop my acting career is hard because
there is so much competition and most girls are willing to do
anything for a chance. Also, having grown up in
the States, my Chinese is not as good as the locals, so sometimes
it limits my chances of getting roles. So right
now all I can do is work hard on bettering my Chinese, get to know
more people in the industry in China and hope that the people in
the industry will give me a chance.
