谁若看了丁秋发的画一眼，便很难忘记自己的眼睛看到了什么。诡异的气氛，超现实的意象，每一幅都好像有一个离奇的故事要讲。这视觉上的暴力，搞不好会让你心情沉重，神经紧张，就像喝了一口舌头不适应的烈酒，下肚后却有着浓烈的力量在内心翻滚，我想这就是丁秋发的作品对当下环境下最深层次解剖的艺术张力，在他的眼里，一切所谓正常性的背后都存在着不安的因素，都有着一个蓄谋已久的动机。

他的作品在揭穿着表象下深藏的种种危机，触动着每一根神经，有着强烈的人文关怀。如果用心体会，你会感觉到他在用独特而幽默的绘画语言来表达他对当下环境恶化的控诉。我想，好的艺术作品是震撼内心的，这跟当下的当代艺术普遍娱乐化倾向是不一样的。他说过，他不喜欢小情小调艺术作品。我可以理解，他想用画说得更多，而不仅仅是一幅画。他通过这种荒诞的情境来承载他对世界的认知，来叙述现实的困境，堕落的人性……所以，读了每幅作品，便像读了黑色幽默的情节，让人苦笑不得。

Anyone who ever looks at Ding Qiufa’s painting would never forget what they have seen. Mysterious atmosphere and surrealistic imageries make each painting seem to have an extraordinary story to tell. The visual violence might make you nervous or even depressed. But like drinking the liquor which is not suited to your tongue, there will be power rolling into your heart when the liquor arrives at your stomach. I think he is trying to use the power of art to intellectually dissect the current social environment in China. In his eyes, under the cover of so-called harmony, there must be some unrestful factors and a meditated motive. His provoking works disclose acute social crises and have some humanistic views to express.

If you properly appreciate his works, you will find that he is bringing his accusations against the degenerating environment with a special and humorous narrative of painting.  I think that the good art is created to tug one’s heartstrings, nothing like the entertaining tendency of contemporary art. Ding Qiufa said he doesn’t like those works with a bourgeois sentiment. I fully understand that he wants to say more than what shows in a painting. His works bear his understanding of the world and give an account of the predicament of reality and the degradation of human nature ...So, looking at each piece of his works, as if reading some stories of black humor, make you smile bitterly.
