Forbidden fruit 的意思是禁果,现代人常以禁果比喻渴望得到但不能,或很难得到的事物。或很想做但明知不应该或做了会受到惩罚的事情。现代文学中也经常以“偷食禁果”来暗喻年轻男女间发生性行为。在语言运用中通常可以理解为因被禁而更想得到的东西。我们来造个句子感受下:
I told my son he was not allowed to eat ice-cream as he was having a cold, but he ate more than usual.
---Well, forbidden fruit tastes better; and this is especially true for kids.
我告诉我的儿子他正患感冒,不能吃冰激凌,但他吃的反而比平时还多。
--越是不让就越想要,小孩尤其是这样。
禁果的影响
根据魔鬼(蛇)所说,吃了禁果后,便能如上帝一样拥有分辨善恶的能力。
起初二人赤身露体,并不羞耻;吃过禁果后,他们害怕被看见赤身露体,便拿无花果树的叶子作衣服。
后果
根据《圣经》,在二人进食禁果后,上帝对蛇、男人及女人有以下的惩罚:
蛇“必受咒诅”,从此要用肚子行走及终生吃土;后裔要与女人的后裔彼此为仇,女人的后裔要伤它的头,而它则要伤她们的脚跟;(创
3:14-15)
女人怀胎的苦楚加增,生产时要受苦楚;要恋慕丈夫,及被丈夫管辖;(创
3:16)
男人则要受咒诅,要汗流满面才得糊口,直到他归了土;从此需终身劳苦才能从(田)地里得到食物,而地会长出荆棘和蒺藜(创
3:17-19);
为防他们再摘取及进食生命树的果子以获永远生存,便他们赶出伊甸园;又在伊甸园的东边安设基路伯及四面转动会发火焰的剑,以把守前往生命树的道路。(创
3:22-24)
禁果的品种
关于禁果是什么水果,《圣经》中虽并无明言,但多数便认为是苹果。据多数推测,禁果可能是葡萄、无花果、香橼或小麦。
