his, their, everyone, everybody 替代

his, their, everyone, everybody 替代

交大附中程学军

经常见到这样的题目，无法辨别区分：

Everybody should do ____ best.

A. its, B. his, C. her, D. their

除了c可以明确地排除外，好像其他的三个选项都有一定的道理，且越读越顺口。

尤其是B， D两个选项。

几经查阅，发现了问题，从剑桥字典中得到如下结论：

his

(FEMALE OR MALE)

    determiner, pronoun
(something) belonging to or connected with a person or animal that has just been mentioned and whose sex is not known or not considered to be important:
       Anyone who drives his car at 100 miles an hour is asking for trouble.
       What a lovely dog! What's his name?

NOTE: Many people prefer to use their, and this can sometimes mean changing other words in the sentence. Its can be used for animals.

their

       1 of or belonging to them:
       He gave them their coats.

       2 used to refer to one person in order to avoid saying 'his or her':
        One of the students has left their book behind.

总结：

本人认为，在通常情况下，用his, 当我们担心听众过于注重性别时，就选用their。

同时，在出题的时候，还是避免这样的模糊试题。
