Dear Primary 1 Parents,
First, we would like to thank all the parents who made time to come and see us for the Parent-Teacher meetings. It’s very heartening to see many of you involved in your children’s school life. However, if you feel that there are further issues to discuss, please feel free to make another appointment.
We are coming to the end of our second unit of ‘Who We Are’. This week we will continue to discuss friendship and conflicts. We hope that many of you are now aware of the steps on how to solve a conflict! We will be making a friendship wreath where, all the children will get a chance to reflect and write something positive about each member of their group.

From Chinese perspective, students will describe a variety of conflicts that
happen commonly in school. Teacher will list them on board and
choose two of them to discuss how the steps and rules can be used
to solve the conflicts. Then students will discuss if the steps and
rules can be applied to other situations.
在学校中,有多少类型冲突会发生。老师会把这些一一列在黑板上,然后让二个同学讨论,那些步骤以及原则可以使用,来解决冲突。 其他学生可以讨论,这些步骤以及原则是否可以用在别的情况。

Christmas is around the corner, and, in case you were unaware, many of the children already have their wish lists ready! So, to add on to the cheer, we will soon begin our preparations for the Christmas concert, to be held on the 17th of December. More details will be sent to you closer to the time. Another event coming up is the Jewish celebration, Hanukkah which begins on the 1st of December. We are privileged to have Mr. Loren (Nate’s Dad) who will be coming in on the 1st to share a bit about this celebration.

Through Ms Lynn’s huge and appreciated effort, we recently received a huge stack of books from the National Library. I am sure that many of you noticed that your children came home with two books to read on Friday, one from our school library and the other from the National Library. School library books will continue to be handed out on the library days but the other books can be changed when the children have completed reading them. We are quite keen to instill the reading culture in our students, so we ask parents to ensure that the children do actually read the book as opposed to just flipping through the pages and then exchange for a new one. There are lots of books related to our PYP topics and we will try to ensure that we hand out books that are at your children’s level.
This week in language arts the students will review
verbs, adjectives and
nouns as well as long
vowel sounds in phonics.
In Math the students will continue to work with measure and
this week’s topic is volume.
