Capricorn 2010 Overview
The Major Trends and Themes
Jupiter expands whatever he touches. He usually spends about 13 months in each zodiac sign. His job is to bring joy, adventure, open-mindedness, advanced education, travel, global perspectives, and a sense that we are all one big happy family and not so very different from each other. Because of his expansive tendencies, he brings “prosperity” and “abundance” to whatever concept he is focused on. If things are good, he brings an abundance of good. If things are bad, he brings an abundance of bad.
As 2010 begins, Jupiter is still in Aquarius and your second house until January 18th when he moves into Pisces and your third house. Normally, Jupiter spends about 13 months in each zodiac sign, but this year it is a bit different. Jupiter flies through Pisces at mock speed and then moves into Aries and your fourth house on June 6th. Later, he turns around and heads back into Pisces and your third house on September 9th. Then on January 22nd, 2011, he moves back into Aries and your fourth house again, where he will remain throughout the first half of 2011.
While in Aquarius, Jupiter focuses on social networking, friendships, group activities, the Internet, and teamwork. Aquarius rules over independence, freedom, eccentricities, and wanting to be seen as both a unique individual and a great team player. “All for one and one for all”, “We are all in this together”, “Together we stand, divided we fall”, and “I am my brother’s keeper” are Aquarian philosophies that Jupiter is working to encourage and embrace. Globally, this has been one of the major themes of 2009.
For Capricorn, this has been happening in your second house of personal wealth, assets, bank accounts, net worth, and self-worth. This has been a delightful energy for Capricorns to work with. While it might seem that the last year has not been one of prosperity and abundance in your finances, the reality is that Capricorns in general did much better than most of the other zodiac signs. It might not feel like much, but if ever you were going to want the planet of good luck in your money house, it would be during a huge economic downturn. It is not as if you are not capable of creating wealth during normal economic cycles after Jupiter has moved on to work in some other area of your life. Jupiter acted more as buffer from complete financial destruction.
In Pisces, Jupiter focuses on kindness, compassion, charity, emotional well-being, spirituality, intuition, empathy, and bringing a sense of “magic” to the world.
For Capricorn, he will be in your third house of interpersonal communications (verbal and written words, telecommunications, computers, etc.), commercial activities (buying and selling, negotiations, contracts, agreements, commitments, etc.), and local community (neighbors, local people, siblings, extended family, one’s clansmen, etc.). Local forms of transportation, like subways, city busing, cars, bicycles, skates, etc are also part of this sector. Hosting Jupiter in this area of your chart can be a mixed blessing. If you work in one of these industries, then business could do quite well. For example, if you work in sales, you could find that you are blessed with an abundance of clients. This would be a great placement if you are a writer, if you teach elementary levels, or if you work in the automotive industry, etc. Jupiter also brings more family events, interactions with your siblings, more contact with neighbors, etc. If you get along wonderfully with your family and/or community, this can be quite pleasant, but if these people are dysfunctional, needy, or self-destructive, you could find that having more contact with them is the last thing you want. For the most part, when other planets are getting along nicely with Jupiter, then your familial and community relationships should do well. And when the other planets are clashing with Jupiter, you could find that those relationships are more stressful and troublesome. Overall, Jupiter is always trying to bless whatever he touches.
In Aries, Jupiter embraces Aries’ pioneering spirit, enthusiasm, fiery passion, and willingness to compete for the sheer entertainment of it. Unlike Aquarius’ teamwork approach to life, Aries is all about racing to the top and being number one. Aries is generous, boisterous, and charming. The competitive nature is not a selfish or mean energy, but a childlike “last one there’s a rotten egg!” type of playful energy. Jupiter can have great fun bringing more of this optimistic can-do energy into the world.
For Capricorn, it happens in your fourth house of real estate, housing matters, roommates, parents, childhood issues, retirement circumstances, and “coming home”. These are the areas of your life that Jupiter will be trying to bless while in Aries. It is not unusual to move into a bigger home, add on to a preexisting home, add more roommates to the household, bring more culture, books, toys, joy, etc into the home, etc. Jupiter loves to expand the mind, broaden horizons, and encourages us to share what we have learned with others, so open-minded discussions and a sense of global awareness easily enters the private life during this time.
When Jupiter backtracks and revisits Pisces and your third house, you could find that he is either bringing back clients, writing projects, transportation methods, family dynamics, etc that worked well in the past, or he is simply giving you a second wave of strong positive energy to work with. He might be giving you a second chance to see how lucky you are to have any kind of family at all, or a second chance to connect with much loved relatives, or a second chance to try to get them the help they need. Professionally, you could have a second wave of great sales energy, or a second chance to negotiate contracts, or a chance to do more business with happy repeat customers.
Saturn creates our personal challenges and “tough love” learning experiences. He usually spends about two and a half years in each zodiac sign. His job is to create learning experiences that are often uncomfortable but ultimately quite meaningful. Saturn also rules over karma, cause and effect, ethics, and our sense of civic duty. Therefore, it is not only important that we learn our life lessons well, but that we also conduct ourselves with honor and integrity while going through these challenges. If we stay out of trouble, behave ethically, buckle down, and learn our lessons well, then Saturn rewards us with a gift just before he leaves that zodiac sign. For example, if Saturn were traveling through the area of our charts that deals with professionalism, leadership, and success, then he would teach us some tough lessons about those concepts. Then, if we learned our lessons and we behaved ourselves while doing so, Saturn would reward us with a job promotion, professional kudos, public recognition, etc. We would be better at our jobs, better at leading our companies and communities, and/or we would be better at marketing and advertising ourselves. If on the other hand, we did not learn our lessons, or we were unethical, blamed others for our problems, cheated, lied, etc then Saturn would simply move on to the next zodiac sign and we would have nothing to show for all the drama and trouble that we had just endured. Saturn gets a bad reputation because many people think he is simply mean for the heck of it, when in actuality, he is like a “tough love” parent forcing us to grow up and act like a responsible adult. Might not be very fun, but the rewards are well worth it.
As 2010 begins, Saturn is still making a preview visit in Libra and your tenth house. He will backtrack and revisit Virgo and your ninth house from April 8th until July 20th. During that time, he will make sure that you learned the life lessons you were taught over the last couple of years. Then he will return to Libra and your tenth house where he will remain until October of 2012.
While in Virgo over the last couple of years, Saturn focused on our ability to feel like useful members of society. Virgo rules over daily work tasks, to-do lists, coworkers, productivity levels, organizational skills, tools, and our physical health because if you are not physically able to do your fair share of the work, then you are not able to feel useful and productive. The idea is that we are contributing something to society and not just lazing around picking daisies and playing Frisbee. As lovely as eternal vacation might seem, at some point in our development, we all get bored of constant playtime and need something important to do. “Did my life matter? Did I contribute anything meaningful to the world? What is my legacy, if any?”
For Capricorn, this happens in your ninth house of long-distance travel, multicultural teachings, languages, religions, laws, philosophies, universities, mass media, and global awareness. When Saturn passes through this area of someone’s chart, they are often challenged with political, academic, or religious debates, legal battles, problems with traveling abroad or even across country, and often their sense of global awareness is challenged. Saturn forces you to open your mind and to broaden your horizons. He can do this through legal, academic, political, religious, philosophical, and/or cultural “learning experiences.”
While in Libra, Saturn focuses on our partnerships. While in this zodiac sign, Saturn forces us all to look at who we choose to partner with, what kind of partnerships we like, and how we behave within our partnerships. It is not uncommon for marriages to suffer, best friends to “break up”, and for business partnerships to dissolve. Competitors can become vicious, especially if they are pointing out real flaws in our character and not just making stuff up. Libra rules diplomacy, fairness, justice, and mediation too. Globally, we could see these topics becoming quite challenging for all countries. Various government leaders will be challenged to pick carefully which countries they choose to partner with and which they choose to keep as enemies. They would do well to remember Saturn’s focus on karma, integrity, and civic responsibility.
For Capricorn, hosting Saturn in the tenth house can be very painful. The tenth house is ruled by Capricorn, so what happens here is taken very personally. The tenth house is about our professional aspirations, goals, public reputation, leadership, fame, civic duty, integrity, and climbing the Ladder of Success. It is difficult for anyone to work hard towards a professional goal and NOT receive the immediate benefits of those efforts. Having to learn life lessons about our professional image, leadership style, or even how best to go about moving up that ladder of success can be bad enough. However, when you are a Capricorn and see these things as extremely important, it becomes even more of a personal challenge. Luckily (or maybe not), since Capricorns are ruled by Saturn (the Tough Love Parent), we learn at a young age how to be stoic, put our nose to the grindstone, and keep on keeping on until we finally get to that place of accomplishment that we are trying to attain. As a fellow Capricorn and having dealt with Saturn going through this same spot in my personal chart just as I was launching this business, I can say that it is professional hell, but the lessons are invaluable and well worth it. In addition, it is not unusual for people to suddenly change careers when Saturn passes over their Midheaven (that spot in the chart that is the borderline between the ninth and tenth houses). Capricorns are dealing with Saturn passing back and forth over our Midheaven, so it adds to the possibility of a major job change occurring between October 2009 and July 2010. Shortly after Saturn passed over my Midheaven, I began offering my horoscopes to the general public. Before that, they were a private hobby. I never intended to become a professional astrologer and I did not stop being a self-help writer. I simply found a new career materialized out of nowhere. So part of your professional challenges and learning experiences could be around a new career path that opens up before you.
Uranus is the eccentric genius, rebellious teenager, and social networking guru of the zodiac. He usually spends about 7 years in each zodiac sign. He rules over friends, teams, clubs, committees, professional associations, networking, science (interconnectivity), electricity, and the Internet. He can bring teamwork, friendships, networking, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than yourself into your life. He can also bring stubbornness, eccentricity, rebellion, and perversity. This is because at his core, he is trying to convince us to be our unique individual selves but also to be a great team player. Thus, like a teenager, he is trying to find himself while being very susceptible to peer pressure. Those who master Uranus’ teachings often make charming and charismatic leaders. Uranus also encourages us to think outside the box and brings a certain eclectic brilliance into our lives. Like the eccentric genius and the rebellious teenager, he brings pleasant surprises and unexpected chaos. Uranus promotes humanitarian ideals like brotherhood, “all for one and one for all”, and “united we stand, divided we fall.” He is not asking us to be sheeple, following the crowd mentality with blind faith. He is asking us to know our unique gifts and to be strong enough in our self-knowledge to be able to work well in a team and to be able to socialize without losing our sense of individuality.
