最近看到有些牛人采用一种以“前言（introduction）”为起点和中心的论文创作方式。就是，先写前言，满意之后再做下一步。在随后的论文创作中不断修改前言。这包括大牛Jesse Shapiro，一位做empirical研究的顶级经济学家。我十几年前都听说过他，当时他被英国经济学家杂志评为世界8位最好的年轻经济学家。 他在这里的文件里Four Steps to an Applied Micro Paper（http://www.brown.edu/Research/Shapiro/pdfs/foursteps.pdf  ）  介绍了他的论文创作方式，完全是以introduction为起点和中心。也就是首先花大量的时间写前言，不断的修改它评估它，甚至花几个月时间。满意之后再看数据。

2009年AFA（美国金融年会）年会组织一些大牛对博士生讲研究经验（链接 https://kelley.iu.edu/cholden/2009 AFA Notesv2 _2_.pdf  ）。一位牛人说“不容易真正搞懂自己的idea的贡献，写作introduction可以强迫你去把贡献想清楚，因此在做数据前要写好introduction。”

“Write the introduction before you do all of the empirics. Likely this will make you realize that you do not know what your main point is; writing the intro will force you to articulate this main point.”

另外一位牛人说

“You do not understand your idea until you write it. Do not let regression come ahead of writing.”

UBC的一位经济学教授说，前言的重要性不单是给审稿人第一印象，也在于使你弄清楚你在论文里做什么，为什么要这样做 。

“Introduction is not just important because of the “first impressions” idea that it will tilt the referee for or against you (though it probably will).
