中国航空博物馆坐落在北京市昌平区大汤山脚下，1986年建馆，1989年11月正式对外开放。占地70余万平方米，馆藏270多架飞机、99架国家文物飞机、近万件航空文物，是集科技教育、旅游于一体的国家级军事主题博物馆，也是亚洲规模最大、跻身世界前5位的航空博物馆。

这架银白色伊尔-14飞机，是毛泽东主席的座机。从1957年至1958年，毛泽东23次乘坐这架飞机飞往全国各地。现客舱内基本恢复了毛泽东乘坐时的原状，舱壁上挂着毛泽东在飞机上工作的彩色照片。

周恩来总理生前有遗愿，要把自己的骨灰撒在祖国的江河大地上，这架运-5运输机，就是1976年1月15日20时15分至16日0时45分执行周恩来总理遗愿的专机。当时，飞机从某机场起飞，在飞经密云水库上空时将骨灰撒在湖泊中；在飞经天津上空时，将骨灰撒在周恩来总理青年时代学习和从事革命活动的地方；在黄河边北镇上空，将周恩来总理的骨灰播撒在黄河和周边的沃土上。

抗美援朝时志愿军飞行员王海驾驶过的米格-15比斯战斗机。这型飞机是米格-15的改进型，换装了大推力的发动机和改进了电子装备，其性能略优于美军F-86战机。机身上有四实五虚共9颗红五星，代表原空军司令员王海上将共击落4架、击伤5架敌机，成为一级战斗英雄、特等功臣。

抗美援朝战争中，一级战斗英雄、特等功臣刘玉堤驾驶03号战机，共击落敌机6架，击伤4架，并创造了一次空战击落敌机4架的记录。

机身喷着“香玉剧社号”字样的米格-15飞机，是当年著名豫剧表演艺术家常香玉捐赠给中国人民志愿军空军的战机。当时，常香玉和她的“香玉剧社”全体同仁，于1951年8月从西安出发，辗转5省，历时半年，义演180多场，收入15亿多元（旧币，约合现人民币15万元），捐献给中国人民抗美援朝总会，买回这架战斗机装备前线。

中国航空史上著名的飞机——冯如二号，由中国最早的飞机设计师和飞行员冯如于1910年7月设计，是中国首架双翼飞机。

“列宁号”是中国工农红军的第一架飞机。1930年2月，红军在鄂豫皖边区缴获了一架国民党空军的美制“柯塞”式飞机，将这架飞机重新刷漆，绘上红五星，并命名为“列宁号”，飞机长8.68米，高3.1米，翼展10.5米，总重2170千克。

冯如（1884年1月12日__1912年8月25日），广东恩平人，是中国最早从事飞机设计、制造的人，被美国报纸赞为“东方莱特”。1911年2月，冯如谢绝美国多方聘任，带着助手及两架飞机回到中国。

中国航空博物馆展出的飞机是中国航空工业及人民空军发展的历史见证。从国产第一批第一架亚音速喷气式歼击机到我国自行设计、制造的超音速喷气式歼击机，从强击机、轰炸机到运输机、直升机，从我国第一架预警机到第一架电子干扰机，国产各种型号的飞机琳琅满目。在这里你还可以看到一大批有重大历史意义的飞机：中国人冯如自行设计并制造的"冯如二号"飞机；参加1949年开国大典时接受毛泽东主席等老一辈革命家检阅的P-51"野马"式战斗机、蚊式轰炸机、C-46运输机、PT-19A教练机和L-5联络机；有美国"飞虎队"支援中国抗日战争使用过的P-40战机；有抗美援朝战争中使用过的米格-15型战斗机、图-2型轰炸机和拉-11型战斗机；在中国人民解放军首次三军协同作战解放江山岛战役中使用的伊尔-10型强击机；有五十年代后期，毛泽东主席曾多次乘坐过的伊尔-14型运输机；有在1976年1月15日，将周恩来总理的骨灰撒向祖国的江河大地上的运-5型飞机；1956年7月19日新中国自己研制生产的第一架喷气式战斗机0101号以及后来相继研制生产的歼-6、歼-7、歼-8、运-8等系列飞机。有1964年10月16日，我国第一颗原子弹试爆时，飞入蘑菇云，收集烟尘样品的伊尔-12型运输机；有1972年1月7日，空投中国第一颗氢弹的国产强-5型强击机……每一架都具有重要的历史文物价值。
